transmission slipping

It started slipping mildly around 60 k and very severe slipping aroung 90 k .

Update from Oct 13, 2023: Its a known issue to toyota .Bad torque converter. In my research I found this extended warranty for 150,000 miles/8 years, whichever comes first. They will replace the torque converter for you.

RAV4 LTD 2.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,850 miles

Only 42,800 MILES on my 2014 RAV 4 and the transmission had to be replaced! Severe slipping issues. Car was only driven by myself (retired woman ) and was garage-kept the life of the car. Warranty expired in 2019 but mileage was certainly under warranty. Contacted Toyota Customer Care for some relief and they initially offered $500. After one week of calling them ( and hours of holding to connect to a live "Brand Advocate") I respectfully asked them to re-evaluate their $500 offer based on mileage and other factors described above. I was advised by a supervisor that Toyota had rescinded their measly offer altogether. They stated that it was because I had also contacted my dealership for assistance. This is certainly not a model for good business practices in order to retain brand loyalty!

Fortunately my dealership (Jones Junction Bel Air Maryland) did offer more monetary assistance and my car's transmission has been replaced.

Due to these sequence of events described above I (as well as my family and friends) will continue to purchase automobiles from this dealership but we will NOT be purchasing the Toyota brand!

RAV4 Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles

Purchased the Rav4 new in 2014 and I am easy on a car when driving it. In 2016 the automatic transmission started slipping gears badly over a period of 3 months. Dealer checked transmission fluid level in the sealed transmission and it was full. Mechanic at dealer took it for ride and confirmed the slipping problem. They ended up replacing the transmission with only 27,000 miles on the vehicle under warranty thank goodness. They would not or could not give me a clear explanation on what the cause of the failure was. Really, a Toyota with 27,000 miles on it? Very dissapointed.
