I bought brand new Toyota Rav4 last year from Carlson Toyota dealership in Coon Rapid, MN. The car is about 16,000 miles now. On Dec. 24 2020, I could not move the car from the driveway. I was able to physically move the shift stick to different locations. The status on dashboard matched with shift stick's location, but the car stood still. Its gear was stuck in Park. I could steer the front wheels only. Letting the engine get warmed up did not help. Temperature at the time was about 6F, which is relatively typical for Minnesota weather.
The dealership service was closed on that day. I could not tow my car in. Next day, the car moved after 2nd trial. Temperature was about low teens on this day.
I brought my car to dealership afterward. They told me, they could not see any error code, no connection issue. They told me to tow the car in next time when it happened again, so they could check real time. This meant, I should not drive my car when temperature drop down to single digit, which will happen rather frequently. Who wants to go to work in freezing temperature anyway. Right?
I can not believe, I am looking forward to a cold snap. It is ridiculous to sell this car in cold climates, when the car is not able to handle single digit temperature.
