5th Gen Rav4 Hybrid and Rav 4 Prime have ONE major problem: Corrosion of the High Voltage cable to the rear wheels of the eAWD electric motor. 2019, 2020, 2021 so far for the Rav4 Hybrid and 2021 for Rav 4 Prime all have the potential to stall if the problem is not solved.
The repair cost out of warranty was around 5000$ US in the spring of 2022. The warranty labor was done for free but waiting times were between 4 weeks to 5 months.
The term #cablegate has been used because Toyota is still refusing to acknowledge this major problem.
Early cases are around 1y/30 000km and the latest cases are 2.5 years / 130 000km.
Cases are many in Canada and starting to pop in the northern states of USA. A few cases popped in Europe also.
Every Hybrid Toyota since 2020 has the potential to fail including Highlanders, Venza, and Siennas Hybrid that have the same orange cable as the 5th Gen Rav 4.
