Hard to believe this is happening. Just a really poor finish on the rims to bubble and peel like this.

alloy wheel rims paint is bubbling and peeling off

The van is not new. It was aprox 6 years old when the poor quality defect in material of the "Alloy" wheels was first noticed. It has progressively gotten worse despite the fact that my van is normally garaged. The Sienna did cost a lot of money and the alloy wheels was one of its selling points. They were also used by the dealer as a reason to elevate the price....Presented like you're getting something better or special. I've owned and driven various vehicles both old and new for over 38 years from different makers and this is the ONLY one that has had bubbled, flaking, peeling paint on the wheels. It looks BAD! At first I thought it was the weather, ie: heat, cold, snow, etc...but THIS is just not supposed to happen. We had an extended warranty, but of course the defect did not occur until after it expired. I have not complained to Toyota yet, but I don't expect them to stand behind their product because of the age of the vehicle. They won't care because it's not new; Forgetting that I could possibly be in the market for a new vehicle. I think they should replace the wheels. They look terrible! The photo I took was one of the better wheels. Toyota should stand behind the quality of their products! I guess I'll find out because they WILL HEAR from me....I am extremely annoyed, and irritated that I may have to buy new wheels or paint or cover the wheels because they look tacky and cheap!

alloy wheel rims paint is bubbling and peeling off alloy wheel rims paint is bubbling and peeling off

I have a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE. I bought it brand spankin new for about $45,000 in December of 2005. It is my first and ONLY Toyota I will ever own! It is now 2011 and the van has 57,000 miles on it and is still in very good condition. I noticed this past summer when washing my van that the coating on the alloy rims was starting to bubble up. I didn't really think alot about it, it was only a couple of spots and didn't look too bad. Then in October I was washing the van and cleaning the tires and I noticed the rims had gotten significantly worse! In certain spots the paint was completely chipped away! It looked kinda crappy. So I called my dealer Kerry Toyota of Florence, ky and I asked why the rims were doing that and if there was a recall. I've had several recalls on my van just within the last year. For a variety of things from my spare tire cable to my rear door struts. Nope no recall. Then the service manager proceeds to tell me that I can purchase new rims for my van at about $1600.00 total!!!! I was like WHAT! So I started doing some searching online and was finding many MANY people were having the same issue with the rims on thier toyotas. So I called the service manager at the dealer back and he gave me a 800 number to speak directly with someone at toyota. WHAT a big JOKE! I called told the lady my issue. Before she even put me on hold to see if Toyota could "HELP" me with the issue she reiterated how my vehicle was "SO FAR PASSED MY WARRANTY" I'm like lady, I know the van has 20,000 miles more than the 30,000 mile warranty, but the rims should not be falling apart as they are. She placed me on hold for about 3 mins. came back on the phone and stated that Toyota could not help me because I didn't purchase an extended warranty! So I asked her about all the other people I've found that have a similar issue and she says sorry they didn't complain to Toyota directly. But you can fix them yourself and if in the future if Toyota decides to recall the rims they will reimburse you. I'm like, I'm not fixing them I gonna drive around on them as advertisement for Toyota so that everyone can see what your cheap rims do in about 5 years and I'm going to get one of those big magnets to put on the side of my van that draw attention to the rims so that if someone is thinking about buying a Toyota maybe this will make them reconsider! Toyota Customer Service is a joke! I'm very unsatisfied! And I plan on advertising it as much as possible! On my van, on every webstie I can find, and by word of mouth. I'm hoping that the big magnet on the side of my van draws so much attention that the local news will run something on it! Next car I buy will NOT be a Toyota!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
