This is TWICE that this car has done this to me. I will be driving along at a crawl in city traffic or in a parking lot and all of the sudden the engine just guns and the car takes off as if someone slammed on the accelerator throwing you back in your seat!! At first I thought I was rear ended because it jerked so bad and threw my head back. When I realized what was going on I hit the brakes and the car WOULD NOT STOP and hit the vehicle in front of me!! So much for anti-lock brakes. There was no resistance at all. Luckily the only person hurt was me....serious knee injury from hitting the dash. What's worse, my car is not on the "proverbial recall list"!!

Put a claim in with Toyota home office and they are dinking around in getting back to me!! It's been 2 days and I have NO CAR... Bet it's totaled. There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with these cars. The same day as my accident, passed another accident on the road and it TOO was a TOYOTA SOLARA which had just had a front end collision. Wonder if there engine surged too?? If you have had any issues, please email me. United together we can help resolve this issue and not let this company skirt the issue on this make and model. I pray this doesn't happen to anyone else....This problem is a dangerous one!!!

Solara LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I parked my Toyota Solara Convertible in front of my apt. complex, put it in park, engined surged forward, car jumped the curb and I could not stop it. I crashed into my apt complex, taking out the water pipes also for 16 units. I used the emergency brakes also and it did not stop until I hit the building. Kids and I flew out of the car as we thought the car was on fire as it filled up with white smoke. After everything was stopped, and cleared ,a gentleman who called the fire dept. came over and mentioned to me that while the doors were open he looked inside and mention to me that the car was in park......I told him I put it in park before it surged.

So, now I wait to do do with the apt complex and my insurance!!!!
