In 1997 I bought a great looking truck and it was a Toyota 4X4 so it had great reviews. Then we got the recall a few years later on a Head Gasket so we brought it right in. We drove the truck about 40,000 miles more and smoke came pouring out of it. So we brought it right in and they said we needed a new engine and it would cost $7000 ! Now we didn't use the truck for business and we didnt tow. Then I researched online how often these replacement head gaskets were failing and it seems its pretty common. I contacted the largest engine replacement company Jasper and I was told it was so common on this make and model that they had to retool a machine because they were getting so many Toyota T100's in. I contacted the dealership and the manufacturer. They state they already did their part replacing the first head gasket so basically they were telling me "tough, deal with it". I contacted the FTC and no help either.

Well the resale value of this truck is about $5000- $6000 dollars and the cost to fix it is $7000. Im still deciding what to do but it looks like I'm going to have to junk it. Toyota just cost me $6000. They didn't stand behind their vehicle for this consumer or many others with the exact same failure.
