I contacted Toyota USA after finding out about the frame rust recall. After being passed around from person to person, I finally was connected with someone that knew what I was talking about. After some investigation on their part they informed me that the vehicle was not included in the recall. I finally figured out why it wasn't. Toyota in their infinite wisdom only sent out recall notices to owners of vehicles that were sold in states that used road salt in the winter. This vehicle was sold in Portland, Oregon, a no salt use state, BUT within one year we moved to PA where they pour salt on the roads like the Morton Salt girl!!
I explained this to Toyota USA and the answer was, "sorry, we can't help you". I tore that rear end of the truck apart and cut and fitted 3/16" steel plates across the rotted frame areas top, bottom and both sides with a full perimeter weld on all pieces. Now (2022) I have found the front frame members behind the control arms rotting through. Toyota should have stepped up and admitted that they had produced an inferior product regardless of the reason(s) and done right by the people like myself that had placed their automotive faith in Toyota vehicles since the days when everyone thought that a Toyota Corona was some sort of Cuban cigar!
