on Jan. 22, 2010 we brought our 2001 Tacoma to our local Toyota dealer as part of a recall to check for a rusting frame. As part of the recall if the frame was OK then the dealer was to put on a rust inhibiting undercoat. Our frame was OK so the dealer applied the 'corrosion-resistant treatment'.
In March while washing the salt off the underside of the tacoma, I noticed large flakes of rust in the water. A check of the frame revealed a large amount of the undercoat had been applied over flakes of rust and was falling off. I also noted that the so called rust inhibitor would wipe off with your fingers.
On October 15, 2010 after taking pictures of the frame, we took the truck back to the dealer and told him what we were observing. We were told that it was a rust inhibiter that was applied and that anyway there was a 15 year warrenty on the frame. I asked how that inhibiter was going to work when the rust it was applied to is now on the ground.
I feel we were just blown off by the dealer and that other owners should see if they also received a poor job of undercoating as part of the recall.
