  • I want Toyota to fix this obvious defect in their product. I'm not the type of person that likes to have to raise hell to get something done--- But if that's what it takes, I will try to adjust my attitude --I simply want to express that TOYOTA should fix the problem they created---I don't want to get into a lawyer legal fight to try to get it fixed.. _ I have to admit I have bought several Toyota products & have not had this problem of dealing with the company. I have even bought stock in the company because I was impressed with their product & operation.. But this incident about the flaw in construction of Tacoma's is changing my mind..

    Very disappointed customer, Kitkat

I called them after i had it inspected because my mechanic said it will pass this time , but next year it won't pass . Hetold me to call toyota and let them know because there was a safety issue with the frame., i did they said that they quit the recall on march 31 . I said why, that is a safty issue i would say , they said no it isn't , then i said well i was notifed over everything else . I just can't imagine that isn't a safety issue . I'd hate to be going down the road and have the frame break in half. So i told them well i guess you want a law suit on your hands then .

Update from Sep 6, 2017: This complaint was filed approximately 1 year ago with no cooperation from Toyota. Even received a reply from Toyota (after the problem was known by Toyota and released information about it) we were told we were 1 month too late for the improvement/repair/recall. Now we are currently part of this settlement and would like to make arrangements for the repair. The rust damage has gotten worse. I bought this vehicle new in 2005, has been the best vehicle I have ever owned (usually replace every 3-5 years) and your company is disappointing me by not repairing/replacing the frame. We would be perfect spokes-people for Toyota. Owned same vehicle for 12 years, has 50,000 miles and is still in good condition. Stan Hastings

Tacoma SR5 4X4 Double Cab 4.0L V6

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4X4 the frame has two holes in it both near the front suspension on the driver and passenger side. The holes are approx. 1 inch and the other is approximately 4 inches. I have contacted Toyota and opened a case with them. They made note of the issue but never offered anything in the way of a fix.

I recently became aware of a limited service campaign (SC-E0D). It's for 20 Northern states where this problem appears to be the most reported. According to Toyota, yes, the LSC does exist but my truck's VIN isn't part of the LSC. They told me to contact a local Toyota dealership and they could fix the rust as long as I was willing to fix it. I did contact several local Toyota dealerships and was told by all of them, they don't fix these issues but they can replace the frame for a cost of 14K.

So I have a truck that has always been serviced by Toyota, they know they have an issue but so far unwilling to do anything about it. If this happens to you check out the LSC, your local dealer may not have it on file but Toyota Corporate knows about it and also file a complaint with the NHTSA, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. You can do it on-line or via their 800 number

My 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner SR5 Access Cab has rust on the frame in 4 places, rust on frame on driver & passenger side in same place (under where doors both open), bumper hole where tow equipment should be, and front frame right and left sides. I love this truck, it has never had a need for repair except windshield wiper motor and recall spiral cable and other minor recall issues. I was looking into selling this one and buying new, but now I'm worried I will have trouble getting the money out of it and if I need to reveal all of this to prospective buyer. I would want to disclose all. I have seen on the internet where Toyota has bought back trucks with rust for 150% of excellent Blue Book retail condition. Any advise on how to get Toyota to live up to their advertised high level of quality, and lack of rust assurances?

Update from Mar 4, 2014: March 4, 2014 and just got a call from my Toyota dealership and they have agreed to REPLACE the frame of my 2005 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner Access Cab. Can't believe they are willing to spend that much money, just saw on this website approx cost is $12,000 for replacing frame. Has anyone been successful at negotiating a buy back or some type of deal on a new truck and handing over old? Not sure how easy it will be to sell truck at highest amount when revealing frame problem.

Purchased new December 18, 2005 Toyota Tacoma SR5 TRD Off road double cab truck that has never been off road, used in salt water boat launching and has from day 1 been garage kept only to have the frame rust away. First oil change at Toyota dealer March 2005 truck was on lift when I had opportunity to get underneath and look at frame only to notice every weld bead 100% coated in rust along with dime sized round rust spots emerging from underneath frame rust preventative coating. Pointed out rust and questioned technician working on the truck only to response that it was normal not to worry he sees this all of the time on Tacoma trucks. Still in Tacoma honeymoon I shrugged it off only to watch the cancer grow at an alarming pace. Toyota corporate has to this day discounted my photos and complaints accusing me of mistreatment and abuse of the vehicle.

Still in Tacoma honeymoon, I shrugged it off only to watch the cancer grow at an alarming rate!. Tacoma did not pass August 2013 state inspection due to frame rot only way out is $600 to $1000 repair (see uploaded photos) Body shop Toyota recommended said if at all possible get out of the vehicle he had repaired dozens only to have cracks show up on opposite side of frame and motor mounts are of grave concern. To their credit Toyota dealer offed and I have accepted their direct purchase offer - very fair considering integrity of frame.
