Whiled I was driving I went over a bump in the road. The fan on my truck started making a loud noise. I took the vehicle to a repair shop to be checked. This I when I found out that the frame on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma was cracked and caving in where the motor mounts attach to the frame. This caused the motor to drop down and the fan started hitting on the shroud. Also it pierced a hole in my upper oil pan when the motor dropped down and hit the rack and pinion. Upon research there are many many cases of this happening to the 2005 -2006 Tacoma trucks. This is clearly a safety issue that Toyota refuses to fix.

With out warning, my steering got very stiff and the wheels would not return to center automatically. After researching I found that it could be the U-joint on the lower steering shaft. I sprayed lubricant on the U-joint and this temporarily resolved the issue. The binding returns every week or so. The U-joint is not protected from the elements allowing road grime, salt and other contaminants to get into the U-joint. This is a very big safety concern and should be recalled. When I spoke to the dealer they stated to keep lubing it until it stops working. This seems to be dangerous and I will be working to replace it. I am seeing that the cost is ~ $350 to have a dealership perform the repair. Please investigate as this is a very big safety issue and many Tacoma owners of the 2005 to at least the 2012 model are indicating having this issue at different mileage.

Several weeks ago my power steering started to act erratically. It felt like I had no help with the steering. I had to struggle to turn the steering wheel. Then a few moments later it would feel better but the return motion in the power steering would still be sluggish. The dealership service said to check the fluid level and add fluid if necessary. I topped off the power steering fluid. That helped a little, but the sluggishness in the power steering continued to be erratic. Made an appointment for 1/7/2015 with the local dealership. Upon arriving at the dealership, one of the service writers explained that the universal joint in the power steering column had gotten dirty over the years and was now slowly breaking down. He said it was very expensive to fix and to just continue driving until it gradually is consistently very sluggish. Going down the highway a 65 mph and having the power steering freeze up on you as you are making a turn is very dangerous for me, my family and other motorist. How many people have to die before Toyota has a recall for this problem?

Returning home with my grandson from visiting a state university I head a knocking sound in the front of the vehicle. I thought a rubber bushing had failed because previous models of Toyota (tercels) made the same sound when the torsion bar bushings needed to be replaced. Upon returning home I found the sway bar had come out of the left bracket which secures it to the frame and was striking the front left spring of the spring and shock absorber assembly. The sway bar bracket had bent under the weight of the sway bar because the frame had rusted out where the rear sway bay bracket mounting bolt connects to the frame. There is no frame material on the bottom of the frame to reattach the sway bar bracket.the bottom of the frame has rusted out. Looking at the bottom of the frame it has excessive rust. I have owned Toyota since 1977 or 78. Owning tercels, corolla, Camry, 1995 Toyota pickup and a 4runner. Toyota quality this Tacoma is not!

The brake lines are all rusty on my truck. I had to have one brake line replaced and all are in danger of leaking at any time. There is so much rust on the underside of my truck that more of the brake lines are going to break and cause an accident. Also I just had to have the steering rack replaced at 63000 miles and the lines to the steering rack were rusty and had to be replaced.

The power steering on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma stops working and makes it almost impossible to steer at times. I had it towed to the Toyota dealer and they said they could not find any thing wrong with the steering. It seems to just happen at times but it could very easily cause an accident when it does. The Tacoma intermediate steering shaft is unprotected and exposed to the elements under the truck, this problem is common with all Tacoma from 2005 to present 1012 model. My steering began to lock while driving at highway speed giving the feel that I could not turn the truck. The problem appears suddenly and for a short time seems to come and go. According to numerous forum websites, this is becoming a wide spread problem. Due to its exposure to the elements, the universal joint fails and binds making the vehicle feel like the steering wheel is locking up. Spraying the joint with a penetrant will loosen it temporarily to confirm that this is the problem. If not corrected, the universal may bind completely or snap, this will undoubtedly cause loss of steering or control at highway speed. I recently had mine replaced by a Toyota dealership and I am aware of many others with the same issue. This can be a serious safety issue resulting in a crash or even death! other manufacturers that I am aware of cover their universal with a plastic cover device to protect it from the elements, Toyota does not. My vehicle had this failure at 164,000 miles, but I know of failures with as little as 60,000 miles.

Noticed rust on the frame of the vehicle with heavier amounts near/on weld points, & bolt points. Rust is accumulating on the steering tie rods. Heavy rust on rear differential and various steering component parts. I consider the amount of rust on the frame and the above mentioned components a manufacturer's defect. If any of the components fail while I am driving I could crash and injure, or kill another motorist/myself. I spoke with Toyota of sd service rep who told me I should contact Toyota. I have a 100,000/10yr extended service plan and want this resolved prior to the time frame running out.

2006 Toyota Tacoma double cab, V-6, 4WD. I bought this truck new from palmer's Toyota in mobile, al. At 72,000 miles, the driver's side airbag light came on. Took the truck in for service and it was determined that the spiral cable in the steering column was bad. The cost to repair is in excess of $500! I chose not to repair at the time - have been driving with the light on for a week now. Service rep said that until repair is made, my airbags were "disabled". it appears that alot of Toyota owners are experiencing this same problem. What are the chances that this could be investigated and possibly Toyota issuing a recall for this?

My 2006 Tacoma developed a leak at the rack for the power steering at 1600 miles and was discovered at two months outside of warranty. Dealer and Toyota America have refused to cover this failure. I have noted over the internet that several other Tacoma owners have had this same failure which may be the result of the power steering unit not being robust enough to handle the large (stock) tires on the vehicle.
