Tacoma SR5 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,500 miles

I have been having problems with acceleration and surging problems. When I am at a stop and hit the accelerator, the truck jumps a little, then falls on its face. Most of the time it happens when I'm trying to pull into traffic and I need the truck to go. Unfortunately it whoa's instead. I took it into the dealership. They checked it over, even kept it overnight, and said everything was "within specs". What a joke. The tech that took it home admitted he encountered the problem, but there is no fix. I've learned not to pull into traffic unless it's wide open I have been very disappointed with this truck.

Tacoma TRD Offroad 3.5L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 500 miles

Purchased truck new (with 100+ miles on it for dealer to dealer delivery). Since shortly after taking delivery, engine throttle response was very poor, with much delay to rev. Engine surges during medium acceleration. Fuel mileage was very poor (13 mpg). I had hoped that these issues were just from it not being broken in yet.

I lodged a formal complaint with Toyota online, and that seemed to be useless. At the 10k checkup/service, the dealer said they have heard of this many times from new Tacoma owners, and to use premium fuel, even though they admitted that it only helps the issue, and does not really make it go away completely. Toyota offers no fix.

Now at 13k, fuel mileage is better (fluctuating between 17 and 19 mpg), but the throttle delay and surging is as bad as ever. It is sometime much worse than others, and things like starting off on a hill is always a guess if it will respond well, or barely at all. Will be going back to dealer soon to complain, and will add my VIN soon.

P.S. Toyota; Why should I put premium fuel if the engine is not rated for it? I would not have bought this truck if it said is needed premium fuel (which only helps and does not correct the problems). I am extremely dis-satisfied with this truck, and Toyota in general. Unfortunately, I cannot get out of it for a while.

Tacoma SR5 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150 miles

I have been a mechanic for 50 years and I am here to tell you that this Toyota Tacoma is the worst vehicle that I have ever driven. This thing surges real bad most of the time and misfires bad under slow acceleration. I have been to the dealership several times with this problem (as with other problems), they downplay the problem and their excuse is "we are waiting on a software update". Also, they told me that there is not a misfire in the engine, because it does not trigger the check engine light on. I know the difference when someone pisses on my foot and tells me that it's raining, I am not stupid.

I have been a big fan of Toyota's forever, but not with this one, It is a total screw up, waste of money. The case manager for Toyota tells me that he doesn't know how to solve the problem, because he is not a mechanic. Well that's just the guy I need to help me, DUH. I am trying my best to get rid of this truck (only 4310 miles). What a piece of junk.

Tacoma SR5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 988 miles

Was at the drive thru ordering some food, I had my foot on the brake and the engine began to pull the truck, no pressure on the gas pedal, it tried this several times before stopping. Dealership stated due to the drivetrain issues and this that they may need to keep my truck overnight. Taking truck to dealer appointment on 03/25/17.
