The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While searching for the spare tire, the contact was unable to locate the tire and realized that the tire had fallen off and the rear cross member was corroded. The vehicle was taken to mendenhall auto center (8725 mallard street, juneau, ak 99801) and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear cross member was completely corroded and no longer structurally sound. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09V444000 (structure) due to the vehicle being registered in Alaska. The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While changing the oil in the vehicle, the contact noticed that the entire frame underneath the vehicle was severely corroded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician pulled the bed off and coated the back. The front was not treated. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
S10 direct reply- letter to the secretary re requesting assistance with the recall of a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The consumer stated the vehicle clearly exhibited rust inside the steel which was supposed to have been repaired at the original dealership. The consumer stated Toyota issued a recall. However, they did not repair it, they just painted over the problem. The consumer stated due to the rust, the wheels fell off the vehicle.
Rohrich Toyota replaced the severely rusted frame on my 2000 Tundra in 2009, only after NHTSA directed them to. Rohrich Toyota after telling me that per my VIN I wasn't one of affected owners!" Toyota replaced frame and brake lines as well as cross member in 2009. Toyota then reattached rusted fuel line to new frame and now rust from old frame has caused the fuel line to leak severely. I called rohrich and Toyota America and was denied remedy of replacing fuel line! I received a notice from Toyota to have my frame reviewed for rust damage. This occurred in 2012, so I took the truck to my Toyota dealer and was told after inspection that my truck showed no rust. I retained the paperwork indicating such. On 12/30/2014 I took my truck for an oil change and when the truck went up on the lift it actually broke in half. The shop had never seen anything like this and was amazed at the volume of rust internally and externally. I contacted my Toyota dealer because I heard of these trucks being recalled for frame problems. They said they would not help me" please help me. I can't do anything with this truck"

Nov 2, 2011 I took my 2000 Tundra to larry H miller peoria for a " adf inspection frame Tundra" they said the rust has not perforated any metal yet, the inspection paper did not get to Toyota headquarters stating the truck has rust but just not enough yet. I called customer service. The lady I spoke to said the recall was good for 15 years from the time of first use.(Jan 2001) now they are telling me that my truck is not part of that recall and it ended in April 2012. I was given 2 case numbers from Toyota. All the service reps said yes my truck is eligible for the replacement frame. I was given a special case manager..he also assured me my truck is good for replacement.. I received a call today from him with all the information, he told me my truck was part of the buy back program at 1.5% of kelley blue book. I told him I did not want a buyback for my Tundra I wanted it repaired. He then said he was sorry he thought my truck was a Tacoma not a Tundra he put me on hold to talk with his supervisor told me sorry, Toyota will not replace the frame but will give me a $ 2500 credit at a franchised Toyota dealer for parts or service... my truck is unsafe to drive I have approx 10 marble size holes in the frame. Motor and tranny fine only 136000 miles. I paid $12,000 cash for my truck I got it with 56,000 miles on it. Toyota took responsibility stating yes the frames are bad...and they would fix the problem.. now they are not.
The frame on my Tundra is extremely rusted to the point where vehicle safety is becoming a concern of mine. It has very low miles for the year, and it is consistently getting worse and worse.

The vehicle was inspected and it was diagnosed that the rear cross member was rusted and corroded. This vehicle had a recall because of the excessive rusting of the frame. I brought my truck in March of 2013 and was told the frame didn't need to be replaced but only needed to be "under coated" which they did. Shortly thereafter this "undercoating" started peeling off in large sheets. I brought the truck back to have it inspected and the local dealership confirmed that there was perforation of the frame. There is a hole in the frame approx. 2 inches in diameter. Toyota called me back and I was told they had done what was required for the recall and they wouldn't be doing anything else. Obviously this was a big enough concern that a recall was declared and it appears that Toyota has taken the position that as long as they make a token effort it doesn't matter if they correct the problem. I pull a boat with this truck and am now concerned that if the frame fails it could cause a serious accident.
Front frame is rusted in multiple areas. 3-4 inch holes completely through frame. Toyota replaced back gas tank straps, spare tire carrier and sprayed frame from cab back. Didn't address the safety issues on front of framebut would not pass vehicle for wv state inspection. Stated that vehicle was unsafe ! noted holes in frame but said they weren't replacing frames at this time. My research shows they have replaced many frames and my vehicle certainly is unsafe. All I want is for my sons truck and my son to be safe on the road..please help.
I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra with 104,000 miles. It was part of a limited campaign related to frame/related component corrosion. The local dealership applied crc to certain parts of the frame but did an insufficient job and the material is flaking off in large pieces. The safety issue is that one of my fuel tank gas straps rusted off and now the tank is holding on by only 1 strap. I have called Toyota corporate and returned to dealer and no one will even consider helping me remedy the gas strap issue because the recall period is closed. The entire bottom of my frame is rusted and several components connected to the frame are compromised. No, there hasn't been an accident but I am stuck with a vehicle this is mechanically sound but isn't safe enough to fill up with gas for fear of a fire. Toyota customer service uses very deceptive practices concerning safety. It is sad that large corporations value consumer safety so little.

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated her husband was driving 40 mph when he lost control of the steering. The contact discovered that the tire was disconnected from the vehicle due to rusting of the frame. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000. The consumer discovered there was a recall on the very issue. Toyota stated a recall notice was mailed to the consumer. This vehicle as a lot of frame rust where the frame connects to the leaf springs. I have addressed this with Toyota and they do not see it as an issue since it was not in one of the 20 states they considered "salt" states. This has been a known problem with Tacoma and Tundra within this vintage. If there is not perforation, then they see it as not a problem even though lots of scaling leads to perforations and possible weakness where the suspension connects to the frame.
The bed of my 2000 Tundra is rusting out where the cross members are welded to the bed and where the bolts are connected to the frame. Toyota replaced the frame in may of 2011. I looked online and there are other Tundra owners with the same problems. I took the truck to a local Toyota dealership as requested by Toyota recall center and the service manager, head mechanic, and customer service manager all looked at the truck and said it was in bad shape and had to do with inferior metal, poor workmanship, or inferior under coating. Lakewood Toyota said they couldn't address the problem because there's no recall for the bed. If the bed becomes unattached from the frame then there could be a major accident. I was hoping you could notify Toyota of this problem because the company doesn't want to take responsibility for their inferior quality and poor craftsmanship want to put this on record so your dept can address the issue and or point me in the right direction to further pursue this matter. Toyota dealer serviced vehicle according to NHTSA campaign number: 09V444000. Dealer inspected vehicle and determined that applying the anti-corrosion coating was the appropriate remedy. Within 12 months of this being done, much of the coating flaked off, leaving the rusting frame exposed. Returned to dealer and was told there is nothing they could do.
I took my truck for a frame recall, inspection today.they tell me the frame fails inspection, and they would go good for frame.then they say I will have to pay for all other cost in order to replace frame(nuts, bolts, brakes, calipers, shocks, rubbers, ect...)he says could go any where from $2000.to $4000.dollars that I would have to pay.why should I have to pay for there mistake?the truck is 14 years old(still runs well.)but why do I want to spend $4000.dollars on an old truck that also has rust on fenders and bumper.I can, T get another inspection sticker in state of Maine because of rust issues.I think Toyota tells me $4000 dollars to discourage me to do the recall.truck only has 112,000 miles on it why don, T they just offer me some money for the truck, and probably save them money by not having to do the frame+labor..can you help me?[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The frame on my 2000 Toyota Tundra with only 40,000 miles is completely rotted out!. there are holes in the entirety of the frame the worst of if concentrated under the bed. My truck is virtually useless at this point. It is unable to hold any weight as the frame could break due to the holes and rot on it. I have been told not to put more than 1/2 tank of fuel at a time as the weight could break the rusted out straps holding up my gas tank. I have taken this to many professionals and the only fix is the swap out the frame with a new one. If I just patch where the holes are than the rest of the frame will rust around it as it is all bad material.
In accordance with the frame corrosion recall, I took my Tundra in for a second inspection. It was perforated so bad it was deemed unsafe to drive within a year after the first inspection when it passed. After multiple delays and 12 weeks I received my Tundra back only to be plagued with multiple repairs since. Tacoma owners with the same recall were offered a cash value to purchase a new vehicle but Tundra owners were not offered that deal. I wanted to have it inspected by a third party but Toyota would not let me drive it. Multiple repairs since can be attributed to the frame replacement. Toyota took 2 days to rebuild my truck for what was a 2 week job. Since then my research has resulted in numerous conflicts with what should have been replaced on my truck with the recall work and what was actually done. It is clear that Toyota rushed through my rebuild once the delayed frame arrived to get my truck back to me as quickly as possible which concerns me for the workmanship and quality. I currently have ongoing repair problems that they cannot seem to fix and Toyota is unwilling to accept that the frame replacement on a 12 year old vehicle may be the cause. I have/had hard knocking noises in my suspension, steering problems, brake issues, axle seal problems, parking brake issues, damaged radiator etc. That I have paid for an continue to fail. I have asked for a complete parts list from the rebuild which I have never received. My inquiries have gotten me nowhere and Toyota corporate discounted my issue and sent me back the dealer/ service center. I also own a rav 4 which had the gas pedal recall which I had to take in twice because the first time I was informed that my vehicle was not part of the recall, but it was. Then I got another letter, called and was informed that is was and then took it in for repair. Safety does not seem to be the priority of Toyota.
I purchased this vehicle on 10/23/13. I heard about Toyota recall on frame. I called a Toyota service department and asked if the issue ha been addressed. They say yes it was. The frame recall passed inspection. I then purchased the vehicle based on the pass it received. On 10/24/13 I took the truck to another Toyota garage to do an overall inspection of the vehicle so I knew the brakes and other components were in good working condition. The technician called me back and said the frame is rotted! I asked about the recall and he said Toyota is not addressing issue any longer. I said it passed the frame inspection. He said they had them spray something over the rust and corrosion, but it didn't fix the issue. He advised me to return the vehicle for a refund. The owner did not know because she was selling for her father that has dementia. Help!!!!!!
