Manufacturer defect with rear brake drums and front rotors and pads. Vehicle began vibrating badly when applying brakes. Dealer replaced rear drum, front brakes and rotors at approx. 6000 miles. Now at approx. 25K miles, same problem has returned. With only 11K miles more warranty left, will Toyota continue to replace these defective components past the warranty? I think not. Something needs to be done to force Toyota to address this known problem.
Brakes had to be replaced at approx 18,000 miles due to severe vibration in steering wheel and brake pedal when applying brakes, especially at highway speeds. By the time vehical had reached 45000 miles, the brakes had been replaced six (6) additional times, and for the same reason. Dealership very cooperative and has advised me that Toyota knows there is a problem with brakes on Tundra and has assigned a "techniqal team " to solve the problem.what do I and other Tundra owners, especially those with vehicals out of warrenty like mine, do until the brake problem is solved. Toyota customer relation office in cincinnati unhelpful and provided misinformation to both wife and myself.
Drums have been replaced 3 times, front rotors replaced 2 times, front pads replaced 2 times, replacedrear shoes1 time, replaced right side axle and studs, cut drums 2 times, cut rotors 1 time

This is not a failure but, is a great safety concern. Problem Toyota is aware of and reoccurs. Severe brake vibrations on down grade with load at higher speeds. 55-60mph. Tundrasolution web site shows others have this same problem and not corrected properly. Something that goes past warranty. Factory problem.
I have taken my vehicle in on (3) separate occasions for the problems with the brake system. They refuse to fix it. There have been (2) bulletins both sent to you and the dealerships regarding the brake systems. I have read on the internet about several people having the same problem. If this is not fixed it can be a safety related issue. I feel this is a defective system and Toyota should have to replace it at no charge to the owner.
Front brake rotor warpage.maybe due to the rear brakes not helping to stop vehicle. Maybe the size of the brake pads are to small to effectively dissipate the heat.
Moderate to heavy vibration when braking at freeway speeds. Low vibration when braking at lower speeds, 40 or less. Toyota has replaced the brakes twice and will do it again on Monday 9/10/01. This is no gurantee that the problem will be fixed. Several other 2000 and 2001 tunrda suffer from the same defect. Toyota repeats that this is a anoyance and not a safety issue. All tunrda owners regard it as a safety issue, due to the fact this defect has to do with the brake system. The actual cause of the vibration is warping of the rotors when they heat. Some Tundra have had problems with the rear brakes, but its limited.
On 06/15/2001 my 2000 Toyota Tundra received warranty repairs as follows: Replaced front rotors, front pads, rear drums, rear brake shoes, rear parking brake adjustment strut kits on both wheels. All work was necessary due to vibration during braking above 40 mph. Classic Toyota in round rock, Texas did the warranty work and told me there was a tsb calling for the replacement of the parking brake adjustment struts. Additionally, I was told this action would fix the vibration problems. My brakes operated smoothly for approx. 3,000 mi. My truck once again vibrates during braking conditions above 40 mph. This condition causes excessive vibrations that pose safety concerns, most especially in wet or hazardous driving conditions. I have spoken with the service department at classic Toyota in round rock, Texas and they have indicated there are other customers with repeat brake issues similar to mine. I inquired about a permanant solution issue from Toyota and was told there isn't any information to support this. I frequent a Tundra owners' website and have discovered this is a wide-spread problem. I am concerned about how long Toyota will continue to replace affected brake parts before claiming it a wear issue. Additionally, I am concerned about how this matter will be handled when my warranty expires. Assistance with this issue would be appreciated. Front discs warp and require changing approximately every 12,000 miles. The vehicle shakes violently upon braking as the mileage approaches 12,000 miles on the new set of discs, creating an unsafe condition. Toyota should be held accountable to recall this vehicle and correct the problem.
Rear drum and front disc brakes and rotors had to be replaced since date of purchase. Vehicle vibrates when brake pedal is pressed. This happens on wet and dry roads. Brakes have been repaired five times.

Brakes vibrate/pulse and steering wheel "shimmies violently when brakes are applied at speeds above 40 mph. Veh can be difficult to control. This is a common problem that Toyota is aware of yet they replace defective parts with defective parts rather than coming up wioth a re-design and true fix. This is a safety issue and if nothing is done, lives will be lost as this veh is sold to more and more people.
I have had the brakes replaced twice on this car once at 8K miles and again at 14K I am alerting you of this problem as I have seen many others with the same problem. The brakes begin to shudder and the steering wheel vibrates. I am running on a new set of discs in the front and rotors in the back after only 14,000 miles.
Within 4000 miles of purchase of vehicle, it developed severe vibration during braking. Vehicle currently has 28000 miles on it and is on its third full set of brake rotors and drums. New rotors/drums seem to only provide 1000-4000 miles of smooth braking before vibration sets in again. Dealers fixing vehicle say vibration is due to heat induced warping of rotors and drums. Once parts are warped, vibrations get so severe it feels almost as if the rear end of the vehicle is hopping up and down during hard braking. I believe this defect greatly increases critical stopping distance. Manufacturer has not provided "permanent" fix for this defect, they have only replaced warped parts with new parts of same design. Soon vibration sets in again. Vehicle will soon be out of warranty.
