Passat GLS 1.8L Turbo

  • Manual transmission
  • 115,000 miles

My check engine light came on last year some time, and I took it into a shop and they said it was something related to the emissions, and it wasn't anything that would hurt the car. I'm a student, and I'm not the smartest person for owning a VW because they are truly a money pit and not worth owning. There has been nothing but small annoying problems with my car and it's really sad that I recently spent so much money on it that I really can't justify selling it.

So just last week my "Low Oil Pressure" light came on and it told me to stop the car. I checked my oil right away and it was fine, so I instantly went online to see what could be wrong and everyone was talking about OIL SLUDGE!! I called my local garage and got the car in the next morning, so they checked the pressure and changed the sensor and everything seemed to be fine. I called my other mechanic in town who works on VW for a living (he makes a lot of money b/c he's booked two weeks in advance b/c VW is completely worthless), and he said the only way to know for sure what is really going on is to drop the oil pan and clean everything out...he charged me $350 for this, which is a deal, but now I'm worried that the Turbo is blown b/c I can't hear it whistle all the time like in the past when the car was younger.

I'm getting the car back tomorrow morning and I hope the problem is solved, and hopefully the "check engine" light can be reset and stay off after this problem is adressed.

I drove cross country then a week later the timing belt broke causing the entire engine to seize up bending practically every single valve in the head. it took over a month to get it back running! I hate this car!

I too am the obviously bamboozled financier of VW of America. My 2000 Passat is down for the second time.First repair picked up by dealer. Now the car is in my garage collecting dust. ENGINE SLUDGE. There are so many complaints about this car now that one would be of low common sense to buy one.My first vw was a tank....the first mechanical was at 140,000..... water pump. The car was so fun to drive i bought another and got my @$$ burned! Sadly i am not optimistic about a total recall to fix the issue. No way in hell would the powers that be allow a major company to be financially RESPONSIBLE to rectify how ever many cars Vw dumped on people.

VW should be not allowed to sell another 1.8 T engine until they could prove in a courtroom under oath that they have found a better way to manufacture an engine.

Maybe Vw could consider a turbo timer to cool the oil the way a REAL turbo equipped

vehicle does.Maybe i should take my pi$$ poor example of a fine European turbo sedan

to the local dealer on my buddy's flatbed as token of my deep appreciation and greet all the exited car shoppers and illustrate what they have to look forward to, that's fair ain't it? FARVIGNUGEN did i spell that right? What the hell is that ? Are they proud of that?

I have a headache now gotta go.......Vw you coulda had something really special.

Engine light popped on while driving the other day, along with a message on "the message board" stating..emissions workshop! What ever that means...looks like my electrical problems continue.

My dad said I should get rid of it as soon as it started giving me electrical problems, but I just bought the damn thing.;(
