Kia Recalls Sorento Over Fears Front Axle Shaft Could Break
Busted axle shaft could cause loss of power to wheels or a rollaway Sorento.

— Kia is recalling over 9,300 model year 2014 front wheel drive Sorento cars because the right front axle shaft might break.  Hyundai just recalled 20,000 model year 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles for the same problem.

Kia said there was a problem during manufacturing that could cause the axle shaft to break and cause all power to be lost to the wheels.  Further, the vehicle could roll away if the parking brake isn't applied.

The affected Sorento cars are equipped with 2.4 liter engines and were manufactured January 7, 2013, through March 12, 2013.

The recall is scheduled to begin in September, 2013.  Kia dealers will replace the front axle shaft assembly.
