CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Cobalt inherited most of the problems from the 2005 and 2006 model years, but toned them down (a bit). Sure, the power steering still fails and the car has a chance of going up in flames due to a cracked fuel tank, but it’s not as prevalent as the older models. At least not yet.

In 2012, the Cobalt was recalled for gas tank fires but only for owners in certain states.

Then in 2014, the 2007 Cobalt was part of a massive GM recall due to a defective ignition switch that could cause the airbags to not deploy during an accident. The problem led to 13 deaths, government investigations and multiple class-action lawsuits.

Complained about hard shift on Transmission I think the first time was 2008. I took my car in and they reset the Transmission Computer or something. Problem still recurred and was recently worked on by Chevrolet under a call back. The TCM was changed, after I was told by another dealer that it is the torque converter.

This is what I thought they were going to do as they had my car for a week. But I find out after the car is still having the same problem that they changed the TCM. I do not drive my car a lot as it has just went over the 50,000 mark. But when I do drive a long distance, IE vacation travel, the transmission goes into a hard shift after driving for a while on interstate. But when you get to where you have to slow to stop it hard shifts, Yanks. and then when you take off it hard shifts again, yanks. Chevrolet said they have fixed this problem and drove to various locations the other day for the first time since they had returned the vehicle and it did the same thing. I am going back to Chevrolet to pick up keys that would not work and let's see what they do about it this time.

Cobalt LS 2.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,400 miles

When you want to speed up or are going up a incline its like the transmission is slipping

You can mash the gas and mash it and when you finely get it almost to the floor the RPMs will kick in and run up to about 4000. I took it back to the place I bought it and they sent it off and when I went to pick it up they said that GM said that there was nothing wrong with the car that, that was a characteristic of the Cobalt. That is a bunch of bull Sh*t. I might be a woman but you cant tell me that a vehical skipping like that is normal. Any way they said that there was nothing to fix, so what can I do?
