CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Escape has problems where the engine shuts down while driving. Ford finally issued a September 2014 recall. Time will tell if the recall fix really solves the problem.

However the 2005 Escape also has a defect where the PCM (Power Control Module) fries at around 100k miles. Ford extended the PCM warranty to 80,000 miles, but only after most owners were past the mileage limit. Now owners are on the hook for the average repair cost of over $2,000 (!!)

The problem with the a/c began in May 2006. I have had the vehicle in the shop FIVE TIMES over the last year and a half for this problem. I found that the service reps at the dealership act like this is "no big deal". Out of the five times I have been given a rental car for only two of the visits, and only received the rental car after pleading for one. My vehicle is black and I live in Las Vegas. Try driving around in bumper to bumper traffic with temperatures over 115 degrees with no A/C if you want to feel what its like to drive around in a pizza oven. The most annoying thing is the lack of service I have received. I called Ford Corp. today and they really could care less. Their response was if I didn't like the service I was receiving I should change dealerships. I replied "But, you guys made this car!", and he told me changing dealerships was all he could offer me. Basically, at the Corp customer service dept. they have trained human robots answering the phone. No compassion or care whatsoever. No wonder Ford continues to drop down the ladder on the quality scale. It probably won't be long before they fold completely with the amount of recalls they have.
