CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Escape has problems where the engine shuts down while driving. Ford finally issued a September 2014 recall. Time will tell if the recall fix really solves the problem.

However the 2005 Escape also has a defect where the PCM (Power Control Module) fries at around 100k miles. Ford extended the PCM warranty to 80,000 miles, but only after most owners were past the mileage limit. Now owners are on the hook for the average repair cost of over $2,000 (!!)

So, here's the story: The keys have been sort of sticking in the ignition for a while, but the car mostly started (when it didn't, it was caused by something else). My daughter drives the car. Her boss had sent her to buy onions because they had run out, and she drove to the store. When she came out, the key would not turn in the ignition. We had it towed to the house, where we tried numerous "fixes" from lock lubrication to tapping the steering column with a rubber mallet (no, really!), all to no avail. The next step will be to replace the ignition, once we figure out how to do that. Can anyone out there help me with this?
