CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Ford Escape looks pretty good compared to other Ford Escape model years, but still has a trend of transmission problems, so it's not a model year we can recommend.

Also the base model Escape did not come with side airbags so it received a "Poor" rating from the IIHS for side impact protection. Other similar 2007 models like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V & Hyundai Santa Fe scored far better.

Escape 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

70 mph on a California freeway and the stop ASAP light came on. Fortunately I was in the right lane and was able to pull over. Let it cool for a few minutes and it started right back up. I too believe this is a safety problem that should be fixed by recall.

Escape XLT 3.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,320 miles

While driving up hills or pulling tent trailer the escape works very hard and you can hear a type of loud pinging sound like the engine timing is out. I have taken the escape back to Ford service and they say they can't find anything wrong. The escape has been to Ford service four times regarding the same thing, yet anybody that has driving the escape have told me they hear the same thing.
