FORD SUCKS! PERIOD! I SPENT 48K ON EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION. AFTER ONLY 5K MILES THE REAR END STARTED TO WHINE. I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A KIT? THEY SUPPOSEDLY INSTALLED A KIT. NO CHANGE IN NOISE. BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN, I WAS TOLD FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THEY TOLD ME TO "SIT TIGHT" UNTIL THEY FIGURED IT OUT. I TOLD THEM, I DID NOT WRITE A CHECK FOR THE TRUCK FOR HALF OF THE PURCHASE PRICE, AND THEN TELL THEM TO
'SIT TIGHT".
FINALLY I BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN FOR THE FOURTH TIME AND THEY ORDERED A NEW RING AND PINION AND INSTALLED IT. WELL THAT WOULD BE GREAT EXCEPT THE PROBLEM IS W/ THE DESIGN, NOT THE PART. I TOLD THEM I WANTED MY MONEY BACK AND THEY OFFERED ME A 75K MILE OR 5 YEAR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. WELL 1K MILES LATER, REAR END IS WHINING AGAIN. THEY HAVE OFFERED ME NOTHING. I AM GOING TO FIGHT TILL I DIE TO GET MY MONEY BACK. THIS PROBLEM IS ABUNDANT IN THE EXPLORER AND EXPEDITION. DON'T EVER BUY A FORD, THEY SUCK!!!

Rear-end is whining. Took to dealer and they said it was fine, its a defect in the ring and pinion gear, just makes noise and no need to worry. Ummmm...I bought the truck to tow my boat and was not waiting for the rear-end to go out down the road when the truck is off warranty. Made them put the updated ring and pinion gear in and have not had a problem since (80K on it now). That is the problem, its the ring and pinion gear and is a known defect. Thank you Ford for not issuing a recall. Glad I caught it.
