Expedition V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,700 miles

This has happened several times to my wife's car. She told me the other day the car stopped running in the middle of the road. She noticed it because it was hard to steer. She pulled over and it started right up. She told me it has happened 3 or 4 times in the past. This time the check engine light stayed on. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said the throttle body was cracked. They replaced the throttle body and motor assembly and $600 later here we are. She was very lucky this hasn't happen on the highway.

Expedition XLT 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,000 miles

Engine stalled on 4 separate occurrences in past 5 months (started at about 43,000 miles). Problem has occurred more frequently in past month (2x). When I am pulling out of a parking lot or similar situation (quick acceleration from a stop), engine stalls (wrench and engine light turns on) I turn car off, wait 1 minute and engine starts again with no problem. Engine light stays on. If I disconnect battery and reconnect, engine light turns off. I thought it was with lower fuel levels, but it happened with nearly a full tank also. As other complainants indicated, this is a huge safety issue and I will be discussing it with my Ford dealer during my next oil change in a few weeks. I have heard various sources of the problem, one being, carbon buildup affecting a sensor??. For comparative purposes, I do mostly short distance, city driving and I get my (87 octane) gas exclusively at Sam's Club.

Update from Aug 8, 2009: UPDATE: I had an oil change and problem has not occured in past 2 months. I have heard from several people that the oxygen sensor is a prime suspect. So.. try an oil change every 3,000 miles, not 5,000 like I did.

While driving my 2005 Expedition, engine FAILS- there is 1 short "Beep" and dashboard reads "Engine Failure". This is a happening again and again no matter how fast or slow. This is extremely dangerous. There must be a RECALL on this problem. The mechanic already know about this problem, and it seems to happen a lot.

WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP, I WAS TOLD THAT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAD REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM.the body throttle needs to be replaced, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. I AM A SINGLE PARENT WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO SHELL OUT $600.00 DOLLARS FOR THE HELL OF IT. IF IT IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL MADE!
