CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

Ford recently mailed out a big performance upgrade to the MyFord Touch technology. All you had to do was plug in the USB drive and let the car do the work. Part way through the installation, I kept getting an error message saying that it lost the connection to the USB device and to please reinsert the USB device...when it was plugged in the whole time. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, didn't work. I tried plugging it into the other USB slot, didn't work. I tried turning off the car and opening the door to let the system reset, didn't work. At that point I called the support line for the updates. I spent about an hour on the phone with them, half the time on hold, and was told at the end to take it into a dealership to have them install the update for me. They said that I had already tried everything that they would have told me to do. Keep in mind, this meant I had no touch screen. My radio was stuck on 1 station, the climate I could control through the secondary controls, but I lost the functions for navigation and phone (the 2 most important ones in my occupation as a Public Health Nurse). By the time I got off the phone with them, all dealerships were closed. The next day I brought it into a dealership to try and get them to help me. They were very rude and I left without receiving and help. When I started up my car (which must have been the 15th time after the update stalled), I got a slightly different screen (still an update screen, but didn't have any words on it). I plugged in the USB device just to see what would happen (what could I lose?), and the update started over and went through to completion. I have no idea why this happened, but I'm glad I didn't have to leave it at a service department for the 4th time in 4 months.
