CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

problem #1

Focus Titanium 2.0L 4 cyl

This brand new, EXPENSIVE vehicle was a dealer trade and had 103 miles on it upon purchase. 5 minutes after I left the dealership, I noticed that in order for the car to go straight, the wheel had to be turned to the right. I had to take it into a dealership and waste 2 hours of my life waiting for them to fix the problem. They told me that the nut on the tie rod was so loose that they could unscrew it with their fingers, and that something had happened to my car (dropped off a truck or repairs made to it) in order for this to happen...they had never seen this nut so loose from the factory. AND the more I drove the car, the looser it would get. I was concerned about the safety of this NEW car at this point, but they said it would have been nonoperational before I had any safety issues. In my opinion, it is completely ridiculous that the car was driven 103 miles and not noticed until I left the dealership, who chalked it up to coincidence when I called to complain about this issue and find out what had happened to my car and what other problems I should anticipate due to their lack of quality in inspections.
