CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.
The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.
And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

On March 26, 2021 I went to Walmart; when I started my car it said a problem with the steering. The steering wheel was hard to turn...like I had no power steering. I drove it home because I had $200 of grocery in the trunk. I had to pull the wheel with all my strength to move the car.
When I got home I called my son and told him what happen. I got back in the car and started it and everything was fine. He said I must have had a short.
It worked fine until a couple of weeks ago and it happened again. I turned off the car and restarted and it has been okay.
I am 80 yrs old and I hate it when a car acts up on me; so needless to say every time I get in my car I am afraid it will have the steering problem again.
What I would like to know is there a recall on the steering system?
Thank you for listening... I don't drive my car too much and that is why the mileage is so low. Only problem is that I live on the beach and the salt and sand is not good for it.
