CarComplaints.com Notes: For the third year in a row, the 3rd generation Focus is experiencing massive transmission problems.

Most notably owners keep complaining about how there's bad hesitation and jerking when starting from a stop. This isn't the result of an old, worn out part. In fact, the average mileage it's reported to us is just over 15k miles.

I have tried on several occasions to have my car repaired because it shudders, jerks and hesitates each time I was told that they couldn't fix the recall or warranty issue because the diagnostic wasn't showing any problems. The car has continued to do the same but now I'm told this is the problem but it is no longer under warranty because the mileage is at 119,000 miles and it exceeded the 100,000 miles for the warranty. The first time I took the car to a dealership it was under 100,000. I think I'm being taken advantage of because Ford new of these problems and I don't believe there should be a time or mileage limit. The vehicle has stopped in the middle of excelerating, it jerks when you attempt to pull off and shudders while in motion.

1. clutch slips in transmission causing vehicle to stall or reach dangerous RPM's before switching into another gear. 2. repair was denied by Ford stating that it wasn't related to the current recall but was the clutches that needed to be replaced. Clutches are going out due to the tcm that was recalled on the vehicle. 3. horn has decided to stop working along with controls on the steering wheel due to a wiring issue with the vehicle. Fuses have been changed ensuring that it is a wiring issue. 4. hazard lights as well as half the buttons on the dash including radio, etc. Have also decided to stop working due to a wiring issue in the vehicle. No hazards making it a risk and unsafe to pull vehicle off of road in case of an emergency. 5. Ford dealership that car was taken to stated all recalls were completed but when VIN is entered through Ford website it states that all recalls are incomplete. Ford sent me a notice for repairs on transmission stating it will be almost $1400 to replace clutches in transmission. There would be no problems with the clutches if there was never anything wrong with the transmission control module to begin with. Repairing the transmission should not be on the owner of these vehicles and Ford should be liable for the repairs to an issue that was their responsibility to correct from the beginning and was not corrected in a timely manner.

I bought my son a 2014 Ford Focus two years ago it was a rebuilt/salvaged title that had been fully repaired. It was a nice car and is. I took it to rockwall Ford for recalls door latch and transmission clutch issue. They were nice and said there is no need to replace the clutch until it starts acting up. But we are giving you 100K plus miles extended warranty. Fast forward two years my son is driven the call 20K plus miles and now in tucson AZ attending college and tuttle Ford in tucson, AZ said it was not covered because the car has a salvaged title. This is not right, the salvage title has nothing to do with a clutch recall. He said the other day he was driving on the highway and it did not want to go.

Replaced transmission due to recall. Then their was a recall on the recall. Took car back stating the car still shutters and stutters. Supv stated you need to drive 2000 miles it will reset. Well here it is September.2020 car is still stuttering and shuttering when coming from stop to acceleration causing a potential accident from car behind. What can I do. They brush me off every time I tell them this. When this happens I get a warning smooth driving saves fuel numerous times and will appear as driving on interstate and it's a smooth road. Car will decrease speed.

My car hesitate and jerks when advancing from a stop. This is very scary when I'm on the highway. My car at times doesn't pick up speed I have to press down more than usual to get up to speed.I had my fuel pump replace because the indicator detected an issue, wasn't aware that this was a recall.

Ongoing electrical issues that may or may not be related. Vehicle will "stall" while in motion or while powered on but stopped at a light for example. It's an electric vehicle so the cause of the stall is unclear. Vehicle will be inoperable for 1-10 minutes, including power steering while the system resets. This happens usually at slow speeds or while stopped - in reverse, climbing hills, stopped at traffic lights. The problem was "fixed" in October 2019 and we were told that something doing while addressing one of the electrical recalls had caused the problem. Now it's happening again and Ford can't tell us why. We've been stranded pulling out of our driveway in the path of on coming traffic, blocking one lane roads in our neighborhood and at intersections.

I have a Ford Focus 2014.3recalls.1st recall transmition, for the longest time Ford dealership would not fix.finally I contacted the NHTSA then told Ford what I did they finally fixed it but I don't think they did a good job. 2nd recall fuel system, I received a recall about cpv that might stick open.that would cause engine light to come on, inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge, inaccurate distance to empty, engine stall while driving without warning that could cause a crash. My car has all these symptom, took it by the dealership to get fixed they said Ford would not fix the defects. Because special codes didn't come up. Sounds like a scam to me. Ford does not want to cover their recalls !!!

I just purchased this vehicle used. I was completely unaware of the transmission issues in these vehicles. The car has 143,000 miles on it and the extended warranty that Ford has given only goes to 100,000 miles. Ford will not fix my cars transmission shuddering and jerking problems. When you go from a stop to pushing the gas, the car jerks and shakes the entire car while the automatic transmission tries to shift gears. It is very unsafe and the transmission will fail due to the faulty clutch and actuators.

My 2014 Ford Focus hatchback has had concerning safety issues due to the dual-clutch automatic transmission since I bough the car brand new in January 2015. When I try to accelerate driving down the street and on the highway my car lurches multiple times and I'm unable to accelerate. This has almost caused many car accidents and terrifies me every time I drive.the lurching has also loosened parts of my car and feels like parts of my car could fall off at anytime. My engine also has issues and I've had to stop on the side of the road at least twice now due to the engine overheating. I have never felt safe driving this car. I've taken it into the dealership many times since the first week I bought the car complaining about the transmission and the employees kept telling me that they couldn't do anything about it. I never would have purchased this car if I had known about these issues and I will never purchase a Ford car again.

While driving on a level four lane road (at 45mph), the car shook and transmission started slipping badly. Luckily I was close to home. Changed the transmission fluid and only got 4 miles down the road afterwards and it shook violently and the transmission completely went out. Had the car towed to the dealership and told us the tcm (transmission control module) was bad and replaced it since it was covered under Ford 150.000 mile extended warranty but after replacing that they done more tests on the car when they said the whole tranny also had to be rebuilt. Ford extended the warranty to 100,000 miles on the parts in my tranny but mine had 13,000 miles too many to qualify for be covered. So now I'm stuck paying $2500 plus taxes!!! I paid $6,000 for the car and 1 week later, I have to pay almost another $3000. I've always been a Ford lover but not after this. I'm done!
