CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

While driving on I-85 South approximately 50-60 mph in moderately heavy traffic, between exits 27 and 26, the car sounded like it dropped out of gear while accelerating. I was able to merge to the shoulder of the highway. The car continued decelerating and the "wrench light" appeared. The car would not accelerate at all. When stopped (at the ramp for exit 26), the car rattled and idled very hard and was shaking. The battery light appeared, then the oil lamp appeared and the car shut off completely. I was towed an hour later to keith hawthorne Ford in belmont. On Monday, July 29, 2013, the service manager, stated that the throttle body had failed; when they hooked-up the car to the testing machine, it did not show any codes. They replaced the failed throttle body, I paid for repairs and have the failed throttle body in my possession.

I was driving home from the store today on a 4 lane road and was making a left turn when the car powered down to 1 mph and stayed there. Thankfully the car I turned in front of had plenty of time to slow down to avoid me. I traveled two blocks home as the car only allowed me to go 1 mph with the wrench light on and with a slightly jerky ride. I called my local repair shop and they got me in to take a look at it. I assumed bad gas or a fuel line needed to be cleaned, but also thought it was odd that a three year old car needed any work. They troubleshooter and cleaned the fuel lines and took out the moisture they thought was causing this. The mechanic then took it for a test run in the local parking lot where the car shut down on him and once he restarted the car ran fine. He said no codes came up but with investigating online he found it to be the fuel throttle needed to be replaced and he would call me for an estimate and that I might want to join the complaint issue online. I will receive my estimate on Monday. Ford really needs to take care of their customers. I have no problem paying for a wear and tear issue. I do have a problem with companies ignoring customer complaints and not tackling the issue before a death ensues. Is it really worth someone being severely injured or killed over saving your name? funny part is that I choose to go back to an american made car after wanting to support the recovery and fellow family members that work for Ford. I will never forgive Ford if they do not take care of this and if my car is $400 or more in repair. This has happened 4 times now and I am afraid to drive the car. Please help.

Experienced loss of power (engine missing). Replacement cost of ignition coil $330. One month later throttle body needs replacing for $440. These are apparently both common problems with Ford.

After stopping at bank, car went into creep mode after less than a block. Restarted and drove home. Nine days later the same thing occurred. Drove to mechanic next day ok. Needs throttle body for $440. Ford apparently not willing to fix although they've had this problem for years. Replaced ignition coil a few weeks earlier for $330. Same mo with Ford.

I bought a 2010 Ford Fusion, 4 months ago in March, 2 months after purchase the car began shutting off while driving, the problem was only happening every once in a while, but has progressed more and more to the point that I was unable to drive at all. I took the car to the dealership, who sent it to be serviced. Then I find out that it is the throttle body and would cost me 600 dollars to get repaired and that it is not covered under warranty. I liked the Fusion until I began having these issues, but I fear for the life myself and my kids in this vehicle and don't think that I should be having these problems right after the purchase of a new vehicle.

I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion on highway 31, it was very cloudy and hard rain was coming down fast. I reached 40 miles an hour after almost pushing my foot so hard on the peddle. All the sudden the car started losing power, slowly going down. Wrench light came on, vehicle started shaking, and right at the best time I hit the brake and the car turned off, it would not turn back on. I had to have my vehicle towed to the Ford dealership. My vehicle has been in the shop a total of 4 times and this problem is still not fixed, I am so uneasy when driving my car, hoping it will not turn off and leave me stranded. I am very scared to drive my vehicle, it is the only way of transportation for me. I am very upset about everything and it still is not fixed. Terrible vehicle, terrible service from the Ford service people. Totally devastated that I make a car payment on my vehicle which is covered under warranty and I am in harm.

60 mph on highway. Wrench light came on. Lost power. Coasted to side of road (luckily safely). Turned car off. Restarted after a few minutes. Continued about 1/2 mile. Happened again. Did same thing. Continued another 1/2 mile. Did it again. Engine shuttered this time. Check engine light remains on. Was able to restart vehicle and get home (approximately 2 miles). Happened once shortly after used vehicle purchase in 2011 but never did again until now. Internet search indicates defective throttle body part is cause. Very unsafe particularly in highway driving when this happens! just purchased a second 2011 Ford Fusion SE (2011) for our teenager. Concerned about our child's safety. Ford needs to issue a recall!.

Earlier this month, I started my car [Ford Fusion 2010 SE] after having it parked [never having this situation before] my car started vibrating after I turned the car on and barely driving it. I placed the car in park and popped my hood and looked at the engine, the entire thing was vibrating so I turned the car off for a few minutes and restarted, the problem was then gone and I thought hmm.. maybe its just a minor issue. This same thing happened again a few days after and then a few times within the same week up until now. So I'll be driving and the car would just slow down and my engine would be vibrating. I took my car to the shop [barely making it there] I went to "broad & james auto care located at 3288 E broad St columbus, oh 43213" after having a diagnostics done I was advised that I had a throttle body failure and they contacted Ford krieger in columbus oh and was advised that the parts are on back order and that there are no specific date of receipt. Upon research I've found out that this is an ongoing issue for this vehicle. Now my car can't be driven at all.

The vehicle is equipped with electric power-assisted steering (epas) that constantly fails while operating the vehicle at any speed. It is a safety concern due to the fact that when the power steering fails, it is hard to steer and control the vehicle. Several blogs are discussing this issue regarding the same type vehicle.

2010 Ford Fusion: Going down the freeway at 70 and then all of a sudden started losing power, no acceleration and down to 55 at which time I was able to get to the side of the road before it died. I let it sit a couple of minutes and tried to start it - started fine. The Ford garage put it on the diagnostic machine but I was told because the check engine light did not come on there was no memory to show what may have happened. It ran fine for about two weeks and then the same thing happened. Took it back to Ford - but was told again - nothing they could do because the diagnostic does not show what the problem is. After my own research on the web I have found that this is probably a problem with the throttle body assembly and that Ford knows about - but my local garage does not want to fix it without knowing for sure that is the problem. I feel very unsafe in this vehicle - maybe the next time I will not be able to get off the freeway/road before it completely stalls.

While driving the car loses power wrench light comes on and the car will not go. It will die as U coast over to the side of the road hoping the whole time the person behind you is not going to rearend you. This was very dangerous. I took it to my local Ford dealership and was advised that the throttle actuator control was struck open they could try cleaning it and reset codes or I could purchase a new throttle control. The technician advised me that cleaning them using fixes the problem and thr throttle control part would be on back order and did not know when they could get it. I asked what if it doesnt fix the problem how much money am I out and then have to buy a throttle control. I feel this is a problem Ford should be fixing when I can google it and there is a known problem.

Driving along on a local road (35 mph) the car suddenly lost most of it's power and started shaking. I was able to coast to a gas station and get a tow to my dealership...they tell me it's the throttle control and will cost about $500. Going online to find out more information about this I see there are several thousand complaints about the same issue in this model. The severity of this type of breakdown (some people were on the highway) and with no warning whatsoever makes this a very important issue to be dealt with. I was lucky, but am still out $500.

I started to pull into an intersection after getting the green light and the car suddenly lost acceleration. I let off the gas and tried again and the car vibrated a little and rolled to a stop in the middle of the intersection. I put it in park and turned it off and back on and it started and pulled away another 50 feet before it happened again. I was able to coast out of the way of traffic. It was towed to a Ford dealer and they replaced the throttle body the next day. After leaving the shop it had one jolt during acceleration but no further issue that day. The following morning I tried to start the car and it had no electrical power at all. They still don?T know what the issue is.

The first incident happened when pulling away from a stop light. When I pressed the accelerator there was no response yet the car was running and in gear. The wrench symbol was on the dash. I cut the car off and restarted. The problem was gone. Later that day I was driving on the interstate at 65 mph and the car just cut off. I pulled over, turned off the ignition and restarted and everything was again fine. Later it happened again while pulling away from a stop light. I shut the engine off mad restarted. This again worked but the engine light stayed on.

Vehicle stalled out at an intersection, check engine light and other dash indicators came on. Roadside assistance was contacted and the vehicle towed to our local dealership. Dealership advised this morning that the necessary part, an electronic throttle body, is on back-order nationwide and did not expect to have the part available for installation until the week of 7/8 at the earliest and that it was not covered under the warranty, thus costing approximately $500. A quick google search indicates that NHTSA has launched a probe into this issue..

I was driving on a residential street and got a flat tire. At the same time I received an error about the power steering and to service the advancetrac system. I thought everything was related to the flat tire. I got the tire replaced and the tire pressure error cleared but I still have no power steering. Iwas told that the two issues were not related and that the power steering is completely separate. I see many many many complaints regarding this same problem with 2010-2011 Ford Fusion. There needs to be a recall asap. Nothing broke on my car and the fluids are fine so there is no reason for this error and for the power steering to stop working.
