CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

There was a recall on the 2010 Ford Fusion transmissions. I took the car in on 12/31/10 to automax Ford, killeen, tx. They told me that nothing was wrong with it and it is fine. On 3 August 2011 my car felt like it did a downshift while going down the highway. At this point my accelerator fails to work. The car is not in any gear and even when I give the car gas the engine will not rev. I then have to come to a complete stop and put the car in park. While in park the car idles really heavy like and stuttters to keep going so I have to turn the car off. When I turn the car back on it will turn over about 6 or 7 times before it starts. I have to do this process every time the car does this which has been about 6 times in the past two days. The incident happens on the highway and in regular city driving. I believe automax Ford has failed to do the inspection right and now the recall letter is expired as of April 2011. I was also deployed overseas during that time period of expiration.

I was driving on the freeway 101. I accelerated to change lanes and the gas pedal stuck in that position. I put on the brakes to slow me down as soon as I took my foot off the brake the car started to speed again, I braked again and exited the freeway and pulled to the side of road, put it in neutral and turned of the engine. When I looked at the gas pedal, the rubber mat had stuck on top of the accelerator. I called my Ford dealer today they had no knowledge of this problem, however I noted on the web today you had issued a warning about this problem in June of 2010, we bought our car in Oct. 2010, and I guess Ford didn't tell dealers not to put this all weather mat on top of an existing mat, as per their printed instructions on the mat itself.

Traveling at high speed with cruise control on. Applied brake to slow down for traffic, vehicle continued to slow and would not respond when I applied the accelerator. I had to put the transmission in neutral and had to push gas pedal several times hard before engine would respond. This happened twice while traveling from Florida to Canada. I had the Ford dealership in wetaskiwin, alberta, Canada check the vehicle, they could find nothing wrong. I continue to drive the car, but I am fearful that, if it happens again, I could be rear-ended.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with 13K miles on it, that has been providing me with tremendous amount of heartache. The vehicle will automatically slip into random gears while driving, even to the extent of shifting from 6 gear all the way down to 1st. I was driving down I-17 in Arizona doing the speed limit of 75mph when for the second time it slipped all the way in to 1st gear. Both times this occurred it nearly caused an accident because my speed decreased so suddenly I was almost rear end at 75mph. I am actually fearful for my wife, who primarily drives it, and my son safely. I have brought the vehicle in before and they can't find anything wrong with it, but yet there are numerous customers with the same complaint. A simple online search will reveal that. Ford is aware of this problem, but individual dealers are only treating the symptoms and not actually fixing the problem. This has to be corrected before someone dies.

No crashes or injuries yet! I drive a 2006 Ford Fusion>>> well driving down the highway while on cruise control the cruise control totally stops and it the speed when from 70 down to I don't know what right away.. the reason I don't know is because the odometer error came up causing the speedometer to stop working. And to add to the confusion... the starter stopped working... all this happened on the day my dad died leaving me without a car to see my family which live 200 miles away...

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph with the cruise control engaged down hill it would not adjust the speed; yet, the rpms increased to 4000 while the engine made a high pitch screaming noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the software repaired; however, it would not solve the problem. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that it must be a characteristic of the vehicle and they don't know how to repair the failure. The failure and current mileages were 13,000. Updated 10/21/10. The consumer stated instead of slowing the engine down to maintain speed when going down a steep grade, it revs really high. I was driving a Ford Fusion that I had rented from hertz in minot, North Dakota. I was pulling out of the parking space and luckily had my foot on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated. I had to push down very hard on the brake pedal to keep the car under control. I immediately put the car in "park" and the acceleration slowed down. I drove the car that day but reported the incident to hertz and urged them to get the car checked. The Ford Fusion had less than 3000 miles on the odometer so I assume that it was a 2010 model.

  • 4,525 miles
Several weeks before the incident, I removed the driver's side all-weather floor mat (the factory-developed optional one) from our 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid and tossed it in the trunk. In the days leading up to this incident, the car had been to the body shop and the car wash. As near as I can tell an attendant at one of those places must have discovered the mat in the trunk and "helpfully" reinstalled it. But I didn't notice this right away. When commuting to work on April 16th, I pressed the accelerator to the floor as I moved into a much faster traffic lane. Upon completion of this maneuver I eased up on the gas, but the pedal stayed down and the car kept accelerating, unintentionally at this point. At first I wasn't sure what was going on, but after about 3 or 4 seconds I heard a "click", the pedal returned to normal and the car slowed. It was then that I thought of the all-weather floor mat, and when traffic cleared I tried another experimental full-throttle dab to see if I was correct. It happened again (but I was ready for it), with the pedal releasing on its own after a few seconds, just like before. At this point I was careful not to disturb the mat's position so I could take video of the problem once I arrived at work. Once in the garage, and with the engine off, I was able to replicate the floor mat-throttle interference on-camera. As before, the pedal stayed stuck for about 3 seconds after I pressed it to the floor. I was able to repeat this several times. But in one trial the stuck throttle persisted for over 30 seconds, with the pedal staying stuck despite vigorous stamping in an effort to free it. The only way it came loose was by lifting my heel which, in the normal driving posture, had apparently been pinning the mat down and making it less flexible. With the heel pressure removed, the mat bent up out of the way and the pedal began a slow return. A you tube video link is available upon request.

I bought a 2010 Ford Fusion from shaefer Ford in cumberland md on 3/17/10. On 4/15/10 I was driving on 220 South from my home in bedford to cumberland. I passed a truck and then tried to slow down and the accelerator would not respond to the brake pressure. For over 1 mile I had brake all the way to the floor and the vehicle was still going at 45 mph. I saw 4-5 cars stopped in front of me so I turned off the car and was able to steer to the shoulder and the truck passed me. I called shaeffer Ford and was towed to their lot. I left the car and later that day I was told that the floor pad had hooked onto the accelerator so that it did not decelerate. They said they check everything and that everything was ok and the brakes were not damaged. I drove the car home that afternoon.
