CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2010 Ford Fusion has a massive number of NHTSA complaints (over 1,000) about sudden deceleration while driving.

The Federal investigation was closed in March 2014 when Ford agreed to a voluntary "customer satisfaction program" covering 1.6 million vehicles that extends the warranty on the throttle body to 10 years/150,000 miles.

Unfortunately it's not a recall, so Fusion owners have to wait for the inconvenience of the throttle body failing before Ford will fix it.

Transmission started slipping on some small hills, RPM up to 6000 at times. Managed to make it home (200KM from when problem started ) There was no warning before it started to slip. If I knew Ford was having problems with this transmission I would have bought a different vehicle.

On my way to work a like everyone else around 60mph the car lost acceleration power, coasted to the shoulder and a very heavy vibration was in the car. Let the car rest for a minute started it up and it worked ok again. About 4 miles down the road it did it again. I called a tow truck and its at the shop now. So far it has cost me $125 for them to run a diagnostic.

Update from Aug 13, 2014: Called the ford number about this problem. Got to speak with a live person who was knowledgeable and helpful from ford corporate. They called the dealer i had my car at and made the repairs at no cost. They even reimbursed me for my tow charges. I wasn't mean or demanding. They just owned up and did it without me even asking. Got the car back fixed same day. very happy to be a ford owner. the made corrections with the throttle body.

On a nice family outing, this 2010 Fusion decided that it didn't want a transmission anymore. Was driving up a large hill when the car smelled like it was on fire. The car lost power almost instantly. It made it to the top of of the hill when we parked. After about an hour the transmission cooled down enough to allow us to drive the 60 miles back home. It developed a rough shift, and sounded horrible. This car was a horrible vehicle.

Today on 4/7/2014 we took it and traded it in for a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. No more Ford products for us!

My complaint is the same as the others listed for this problem. Monday morning at a stop sign the car bucked and the little wrench came on. Drifted into the near by gas station. Waited a few minutes started the car and headed to work (late). Called the dealership was told they need to see it. Had to leave work (early) sat for an hour while they looked at the car. Was told that it might never happen again or it could happen in two days. Then was told it would cost $250. This comes after just replacing the water pump last month. They will contact Ford to see if they will stand behind their product. Waiting to hear.......

Same day Monday the 28th of October. Heading to the bank making a turn and no power and the darn little wrench comes on. This time I was able to get it off the road into yet another parking lot. Sat there for awhile, started and straight back to the house. Dropped it off at the dealership later that night.

Received call (Tuesday morning) and believe it or not but FORD will not stand behind their product since I didn't purchase the extended warranty. Did I mention that my car is only 3 years old...these things should not be happening. Received another call telling me that the problem is fixed and they will only charge me $100. They really want me to be a happy FORD customer. I'm not !!! I'll get the car this afternoon and only time will tell if I have to come back and voice another complaint. I come from a family of FORD owners and I'm thinking it will stop with me.

I really like driving my fusion when it runs. To have a brand new cars trany completely fail at 7000 miles is absurd.

They knew exactly what was wrong with it,but would not replace it,instead they rebuilt it. They gave me an additional 40000miles on my warranty, but did not extend the time. If i wanted to take advantage of the extra mi i need to put 100,000miles on the car in 5yrs. The extra mi on the warranty is completely useless. I like the car but the company and their policies will keep me from ever buying another ford. Run as fast as you can in the opposite Direction.

I have called ford every day this week, July 24, 2013, until now which is the four day which is the day they was suppose to get in touch with me. No one has, I spoke to the customer service clerk, said they want get in touch in with me. I ask the girl how she know who she was talking too? She said they have caller ID. Listen I have gone all through the background of the 2010 Ford Fusion. This is just the beginning to what I am going to go through. I brought the car used not knowing the recalls, when my car transmission started slipping , and not wanting to change gears unless I cut it off and start again, than I started looking at the recalls. Ford knows that these cars are not put together correctly but they continue to try to avoid the problems. I will be on this computer and the phone everyday until I can rid of this lemon hopefully soon. They are DIRTY.

Like other, the sudden loss of "go" when the wretched wrench appears is a bit unnerving. Took to the the dealer, and after two trips and five hours in one day they were unable to identify the problem. NO CODES. They updated the transmission computer module for free and said goodbye. Two days ago while on a limited access toll road at dinner time (heavy traffic) and driving 65 mph it happened again. Pulling over to stop was OK. got the thing running again OK. pulling back into that traffic a bit of a nightmare. Headed home (we were going to a baseball game) and it happened twice more. Fortunately I was on surface roads, and second time the service engine light came on. I have a loaner. Car out of warranty this past April. seems like serious safety issue to me. probably going to TSB with it.

I was on my way to work getting ready to get on the ramp to enter the highway when all of a sudden I could no longer accelerate. I lost power. I turned the ignition off and restarted the car and tried to accelerate again and I still lost accelerating power. I had the car towed to a repair shop and was told it is was the Throttle body that needed to be fixed and resulted in a $500 repair. I purchased the car used with 41,000 miles on it from a reputable Ford dealership in Dec of 2011. I was upset that I had to make a major repair so soon after I got it. It had not even been a year since I purchased the car. Since it was out of warranty I paid the money to get it repaired. I am not happy with the way my car runs and I don't think I will purchase another Ford in the future. This situation could have ended badly if I would have gotten on the highway and could no longer accelerate causing the car to stop in the middle of the highway. I would hope that Ford would issue a recall for this defective part before someone gets hurt..

Traveling down the high way with cruse control on and speed about 67mph. Suddenly the car makes a clunk sound and all forward motion stops. Car is still running so power steering and brakes work. But, that is it, gas peddle does nothing and we are rolling to a stop. Lucky we are not on a hill, or in heavy traffic. Get to the side of the road, put the car in park and shut if off. Wait a min. and start back up, starts hard but it does start. Continued the rest of the trip without cruse control. Problem does not happen again, that day.

Found out that FORD has a SAFETY recall out on the throttle body, but won't fix it.

Want to know why???

'They don't know how to fix it'....that's right, you heard it here first. FORD knows about the problem, and have over 9,000 cars with the problem, and haven't come up with a fix.

So, thank you to the FORD company and "reliable" vehicles.

Traveling on the highway cruse control on, speed about 70 mph. Slowing down for a toll both, when the car made a clunk, and all forward progress stopped. Engine still running because power steering and brakes still work. Gas pedal does nothing. Coasting to a stop, luck there was no much traffic and we made to to break down lane. Check engine light and transmission light on. Placed car in park and turned if off. Got out and opened hood, and looked under the car, thinking the transmission fluid might have leaked out somehow. Nothing, started car to check transmission fluid and noticed the check engine light and transmission light were off. Put car in drive and everything operated normal. About 10 miles further down the road, cruse on, speed 65 this time, and clunk same result, no forward motion. Check engine light and trans light on. Got to the side of the road and place car in park, turned it off. Few min. later started back up and engine and trans light cleared. We turned around and headed home. Going slow and not using cruse control.

Local mechanic said there's a problem with the throttle body. And FORD has a safety recall out. FORD dealer said FORD won't fix the problem under warranty.

Further research...

FORD knows about the throttle body problem, BUT don't know how to fix it. They tried a fix already and it failed. They have over 9,000 Fusions waiting to be fixed with no answer. Make that 9,001.

I am so disappointed with the way Ford has handled the most recent problem we have come across with our Fusion. We were proud to purchase an American car because we believed in Ford and my husband’s grand father once worked for Ford. No problems for the first two years and anytime we needed maintenance we went back to Ford to handle EVERYTHING. This last time we went because a wrench light popped up on our dash board, the car was hesitating when accelerating and when braking so we brought it in on 4/6 and we were told there needed a piece that was on back order and we would get a call when the piece was available. Call comes in on 4/10 for the piece I bring the car in on 4/11 and the car is ready on 4/12 the same issues continue on 4/13 we drop off the car on 4/16 to get looked at again and we didn’t receive a call back until 4/23 with what was wrong with our car. Turns out we need a brand new transmission on a 2.5 yr old car with 17k miles on it?!?!? Why this wasn’t discovered the first time we brought it in on 4/6 is beyond me but I don’t trust the service center or the car and am very willing to sell it once I get it back and purchase a Japanese make.

Driving locally seemed like no issue. but take car on a long haul and then back to normal in town driving it would start acting up. Put into drive and not move, put into reverse and no movement. Driving on highway one day and started acting up pulled off. Stopped car and finally after several attempts managed to get it to move in drive. Heading along highway again decided to take exit and turn back toward home. Got off highway and on busy side road and car starts clunking and then just stops in the middle of the road. Will not roll to the side of road in drive or reverse or neutral. Had to wait for tow truck and then he hauled me to closest dealer who refused me as I had had the car into my local dealer for the issue before. So due to that problem, the truck towed me to my local dealer and I had to dish out cash to cover that cost too. After 2 weeks I was told they would have to order me a new transmission. So after 2 months and 2 days and many courtesy cars and rentals my car is finally done. Still not the same - my radio is cutting out, my seatbelt light is coming on and next week it is up for sale.

I buy a car in march 4, 2010 & after march 10, 2010 I found out the transmission is broken and almost cost me an accident on the highway. And the worst part is I have a DAUGHTER and ex -wife and her son in the car & coz the car won't go up up hill, I was driving 80km and suddenly dropped to 60 and 40 with 7000rpm. I pushed the gas to all the way & the car wouldn't speed up. According to the dealership, the car is under warranty but the car almost caused an accident. The dealership said sorry.

I was so upset and feared for my family as well.

I tried to give it back to the dealership. She said no return policy even though the car is broken.

But I worry for my family or people who might get killed. These people just sell the cars and nobody cares, just want your money!!!

The place of dealership is main and terminal in vancouver bc canda.
