CarComplaints.com Notes: You don't want to get 2009 and 2010 Altima owners started about their cars. That is, unless, you know how to start their cars.

These vehicles can suddenly become impossible to start thanks to a faulty electronic steering column lock (ESCL). Nissan dealers will gladly replace it, but that will run you $1000.

More info & videos about the Nissan ESCL defect are available over at NissanProblems.com.

It's one of the many reasons this car was named CarTalk's Turd of the Week and given our Beware of this Clunker badge. Two dubious honors.

tran hesitates when going into drive and reverse

SENT CAR TO NISSAN (POUGHKEEPSIE) THEY SAID THE WRONG FLUID WAS PUT IN THE TRANSMISSION FROM AUTOZONE AND IT WAS 3 QUARTS OVERFULL . PURCHASED 2 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ONLY PUT IN ONE QT. DID NOT EVEN SHOW ON THE DIP STICK THE CAR WAS RUNNING AND IN PARK AND WARMED UP AS IT STATES IN THE MANUAL. NISSAN VOIDED MY WARANTEE AFTER THEY FLUSHED THE SYSTEM AND USED A DIAGNOSTICS TOOL TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BUT STILL CHARGED ME FOR FLUID REP. AND A DIAG. WHICH THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR . (THEY LIED )

Update from Jan 25, 2016: eng stalls after 2 min in park and then putting it in drive or reverse
