TLX 2.4L V4

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

On Sunday April 7, 2019, I was going up the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx right after the Van Cortlandt St. Exit, headed up to 233rd Street. That section, if you know the area, is an uphill grade, and it was at that moment my TLX decided not to downshift or whatever it was doing because I noticed I had a loss of power. Although the engine didn't stall, I still couldn't move as I normally would. It was terrifying because New York City is not the place to have issues while you're driving. I grew up there and everyone drives crazy. It happened once again and I'll be taking it in to the dealer, but I'm really worried about this potentially becoming expensive and inconvenient. Any ideas?

TLX ES V4

Sitting at a red light and light turns green is a problem. The car hesitates and then takes off. I also notice that upon coming to a stop it feels like someone hit you in the rear end of the car. I look around and nothing. I have taken it in several times for these complaint and told there is no update and it is a known problem. It's a shame to spend $37,000 for this issue!

Update from Aug 8, 2016: I will add that ,y car is so nice again in the repair shop for another issue. They gave me the same exact color and engine size but in a 2016. The 2016 drives great with no transmission jerks or hard shifting. I called Acura headquarters to report and they didn't want to hear me comparing my 2015 to the rental 2016. Hmmm sounds like someone is hiding something.

TLX AWD Advanced 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,200 miles

Bought an Acura TLX V6 AWD Advanced on Oct 2015. The transmission shifted fine during the test drive, did local and highway.

After a while, I noticed the shifts on the first 3 gears are sloppy. Sometimes the transmission shifts are quick and firm, but often times I feel it struggles to upshift, as if it goes to neutral first, then made an awful rattling sound, then it shifts. It doesn't matter if I am on ECO, Normal, or Sports Mode. When it shifts fine, there is no awful sound.

When I went to an Acura Dealer to get an oil change and asked about a TSB update, they said my car does not need any software update, and told me this is a known complaint. I have been following the Acura TLX Forums, and found that some people received a replacement transmission, which fixed the issues and drives as it should.

So perhaps its a hardware defect, hopefully I can get this transmission replaced. My Honda Accord 2010 I4 5 speed transmission drives much nicer than this $45000 car.

TLX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles

I bought my 2015 Acura TLX in May 2015 trading in my 2012 Acura TL. The past few months the transmission has had a difficult time deciding which gear to be in while driving at a steady speed around town. The tachometer bounces around and the car jerks between gears. The car also lunges forward when going down a hill while not using the accelerator. I have taken the car into the dealership 3 times and they tell me that they have done all they can until there is a recall.

The salesman rode with me in my car to experience the problems with the gear shifting. He had me put the car on cruise control at 45 miles per hour and we watched the tachometer bounce around trying to get into one of the gears. We went back the dealership and drove a 2016 TLX with 7 miles and put this car on cruise control at 45 miles per hour and it did the same with the tachometer. Good luck selling that car knowing that the shifting between the gears is rough at best.

Also, when stepping on the gas pedal to take off quickly, the car hesitates. Not good.

I guess I will just have to deal with the problem until I trade it in - thank goodness I leased the car. If this does not get fixed, good luck selling this car to someone else. I really like the Acura brand, but this is not what I would expect from this company. I should have done more research before getting this car. Learned my lesson.

TLX Tech 3.5L V6

harsh shifting, unpredictable hesitation

Acura TLX hesitates 1-2 seconds when turning left, right, making u turns and switching lanes on the highway. The hesitation is unpredictable and dangerous to the point that I will not let other family members drive it due to safety concerns. The shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear are overly harsh. I have taken the car to the dealer 3 times but the service department states that the car is operating normally. They have told me that my only recourse is to contact Acura client services who have only pointed me back to the dealer. The situation is very frustrating to say the least.
