This recall notice received almost 8 months back. This recall concerns me. I didn-€™t have any accidents to report but it-€™s too bad no remedy was given by BMW.

The contact owns a 2010 BMW 528I. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing rough starts and the failure persisted while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor mounts had collapsed and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the oil pan gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced due to a fuel leak. The parts were replaced; however, upon replacing the oil pan gasket, the dealer noticed fragments of vanos adjuster units bolts used to fasten the intake and exhaust camshaft inside the oil pan. The dealer informed the contact that the cylinder head cover needed to be taken apart to verify whether the motor mounts were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

Vehicle stalled twice on the interstate while driving 70 mph; the engine shut off while driving in traffic and was nearly rear ended both times. Another time it stalled while approaching a red light. My vehicle has been at the BMW in baton rouge for almost two months now and they are telling me there is not yet a fix from BMW.

Each time I started the engine, there would be a lot of smoke coming from under the hood, I brought the car to the mechanic, and was told that engine oil was leaking from somewhere. There is currently a recall on the vehicle, involving the PCV valve, which also relates to leakage of engine oil. The recall poses a fire risk. I've contacted BMW, they stated "unfortunately, the parts and procedures aren't available to any dealer yet. BMW is currently working on producing the parts for this recall. " I haven't been given a specific time frame to which they will fix the problem, there have been many reports on the news of BMW cars that have caught on fire, even while just being parked. I have two young children and I'm ver concerned about our safety.

Recall campaign no.: 17V683: PCV valve heater on January 22, 2018, while traveling westbound on the 10 freeway, my vehicle began to smell of burning plastic. I pulled over, turned my car off, got out of the vehicle to find out what it was. I opened the hood and observed smoke coming from the engine compartment which turned into fire burning the entire front end into the seating area of the car. The PCV valve heater melted causing the fire. The fire department was called who put the fire out and the vehicle was towed to the tow yard. Recall notice was received from BMW, however, no instruction provided on how to file a complaint on this loss. Was informed "remedy unavailable".

On 11/17/17 I received a phone call from my wife who had a horrifying experience driving our BMW. She was driving on a busy 3 lane highway when without any warning the eccentric shaft sensor failed creating a very loud scary shrill noise, not unlike a siren. At the same time the engine RPM began surging causing the brakes to lose their effectiveness giving a feeling for the driver of lack of control of the vehicle and the fear of hitting another vehicle. I speak with experience because I met my wife at a shopping center and switched cars with her, and carefully driving the damaged car home. Unfortunately, because of the very expensive repair, 2500 dollars, preventive maintenance is not a good option.

On Sunday 12/03 I suddenly heard a knocking noise while accelerating and immediately reached the dealership to have the car checked. The diagnosis I received is that there has been a fatal failure of bearing that cause the engine to get damaged and in need to be replaced. I looked up on the web and found out that in 2014 BMW had a worldwide recall of 2010 5 series models for a defect in the engine which would have generated the same failure I have experience, suddenly, on Sunday. My car was never recalled, but the failure mode and the year of the model are strikingly similar. The recall I am referencing is 14V-176 for the vanos. The affected 5 series models were produced between February 2010 ' August 2011. My 5 series was manufactured on October 2009, therefore not included in the recall. However the failure is identical to the one described by the recall and I feel that the recall should have been more inclusive. My 535 had 130 K miles, which do not warrant such a drastic failure, especially since has been diligently serviced by the dealership service. Last oil change had still 9000 miles to spare and when they replaced the filter nothing was noticed. Such a drastic and rapid failure it is not otherwise explainable.

The contact owns a 2010 BMW 528I. While driving various speeds, the temperature gauge displayed that the vehicle overheated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that an unknown hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After the hoses were replaced, the vehicle began to stall intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16V746000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 105,298.

While driving car began sluggish and the engine/transmission sounded like it was slipping. Took it to the dealer said it was the #2 and #5 engine coils. I replaced those. Two weeks later same problem engine coil #2 had to be replaced. Two months later same problem - engine coils #1, #2, and #5 had to be replaced. No explanation for the continued problem. Their only suggestion is to have them all replaced. Seems like there's a bigger problem here.
