This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
After the passenger would vacate the car the passenger seat belt alarm would come on and stay on till I would take action by hitting the seat with my palm. I tried three times in having the dealership to repair the seat pad sensor while it was under warranty, but they said they could not duplicate it. After the warrant expired I returned it the dealership and then they said it was a defective seat pad sensor. (ugh)
Passenger seat - seat/airbag occupancy sensor failed. The airbag and seatbelt light remains lit. BMW said not covered under any warranty even though it's a safety issue. Estimated cost to repair - $3,000. Apparently airbag and seatbelt will not engage if sensor is not working
Spurious "passenger not wearing seatbelt" alert when there is no passenger. Diagnosed as "passenger seat mat sensor faulty" with a replacement cost of $2,498.87. Should be covered by a recall as this is a safety issue. Apparently similar issue led to a recall in older BMW vehicles.
Passenger seat sensor for airbag has failed. Was told not covered under warranty or any recall, estimate of $2,200. Was told that safety system is now compromised for passenger.
