I purchased the vehicle in Feb 2022. I received a call from my dealer about the recall last week, they said they would perform the repair on 01/26/23. I picked the vehicle up the next day without them having performed the repair because the VIN still shows "remedy not available". The dealer did not even assess the safety issue when the car was brought in. I do not know if the car is safe to drive. Neither the dealer nor BMW have set expectations for when the recall is to be performed. What do I do next?

My car has an active SAFETY recall, that was issued in 11/2021. Today is 01/18/2023 and BMW still shows the remedy is unavailable. Safety recalls should not be allowed to be ignored by the manufacturer. It's been over one year since issued & they still can not give any estimated time frame, when they might have a remedy available. This is a safety issue & BMW is a MAJOR manufacturer, a luxury manufacturer. Yet they do not care about their customers after purchase & they aren't standing behind their product. My car is having issues related to this recall & their solution is to charge expensive repairs, all the while ignoring the recall. This is unacceptable. The reasonable time frame to remedy this has passed. Again, how is this legal to ignore a SAFETY recall"???"

The vehicle lost power and would barely accelerate while I was driving on the Capital beltway in the DC Area. When I took it to the mechanic, we found out that several of the fuel injectors were bad. I researched this issue and found that these vehicles are prone to having this problem and the NHTSA has several service bulletins to address this issue (e.g. SI B01 03 15 ). However, it looks like this specific vehicle is not covered by the extended warranty even though the part numbers on the 2012 covered vehicles are exactly the same! BWM should be held responsible for this

Multiple fuel injector malfunction codes have been displayed by the vehicle repeatedly over the course of the last 10k miles. These malfunctions are causing the Malfunction Indicator Light to illuminate and remain on. This issue is documented to affect multiple vehicles with the same engine/injectors. BMW has provided an extended warranty for some vehicles with this engine/injector combination. However not all vehicles with this engine/injectors are covered by the warranty extension. This issue has cause noticeably lower fuel milage as well as random violent jerking while leaving from a stop, accelerating, and traveling at speed. A multiple injector failure while in motion has a potential to create a safety issue for the occupants of the affected vehicle and those of surrounding vehicles if the vehicle suddenly looses power or drive at highway speed.

Important safety recall issued, rcall campaign No 21V-907: EGR Cooler. BMW. Since the recall the engine is producing a weird noise, indicated as one of the effects, and the car has had so far two repairs performed in February and March, most probably as effects of this recall: diesel transfer pump had to be replaced and diesel particular sensor. Remedy is unavailable and BMW is not giving any solution so far, while i am incurring in high repair costs and the unavailability of my vehicle.

High pressure fuel pump failure. I need to ask to get the old part(s) back. BMW had a recall on other years of this model, but not this particular year and month. When it fails, it fails abruptly and prevents the car from being driven. This has been a widespread problem on all diesel BMWs for many years. This may be the second pump to fail on this car (I bought it used from a BMW dealer). There were no warnings.

Engine stalled at low speed. Was able to restart engine. Check engine light was on so was able to drive it to dealer. Dealer determined it was hpfp failure, with metal shards in fuel line, so entire fuel system replaced (injectors, lines, hpfp, etc). Hpfp was replaced with the same model that failed, just a new one. A while later, engine stalled again at low speed. No check engine light but was able to restart engine. Dealer notified of stall post-fix of entire fuel system. A while later engine stalled a 3rd time while driving around 40 mph. No check engine light Was advised that there was a recall for a newly designed hpfp but not in stock at dealer yet. Eventually had the newly redesigned hpfp installed under recall. A few weeks later, experienced another stall while idling at a red light. Amazingly was able to get a real-time video of the engine stalling and shutting off. No check engine light. Was unable to restart engine after multiple tries but engine finally fired up on the 5th or 6th or 7th attempt at restarting. Was able to pull over to the side of the road and notified dealer that I experienced another engine stall after installation of the newly designed recalled hp fuel pump.. Took the car into the dealer and showed them the real Time video of my engine stalling and dealer sent diagnostics to BMW North America but Was advised that BMW engineers were unable to replicate or to find the problem that caused the engine stall. Full credit to local BMW dealer that has always tried their best to help me find and fix the problem but the engine stalling randomly is a life or death kind of malfunction. After 4 engine stalls including after a replacement of a recalled brand new design part, I'm hoping BMW North America can work with me towards a solution and not have to wait till a catastrophic accident before a remedy is offered.

My vehicle was part of a recall No. 21V-586. I was told I have metal shavings in the fuel system coming from the high pressure fuel pump and given a price to repair of $17,200. I first looked on line and found my make, model and year was part of a recall for this exact same issue I informed the dealership of the recall. The contacted BMW and they stated they would not cover the repairs because now they are saying it was bad fuel. I stated if bad fuel then we treat it and nothing should be wrong with the pump. This went on for a couple week then I requested a BMW come to the dealership to inspect. After this visit it was agreed they would replace the high pressure fuel pump and nothing else. After fighting them and telling them if the metal shavings in the system is from a recalled part then why are they not correcting the entire issue. I then received an email later with repairs listed and it show hoses and filters and new fuel and no charge. I assumed they replace the entire fuel system to get rid of the metal shavings. I went pick up the vehicle and was told that there are still metal shavings in the system to be careful as the vehicle may shut off without warning. I asked how BMW could give a car back that they did not fix the problem and may cause a crash. They had no answer. I now have a car that I really can't drive and has no value. I have had to purchase another car thus incurred additional and unwanted expense due to BMW's refusal to correct a manufacturer's defect. Why is it my responsibility to pay to have the metal shavings from their recalled fuel pump removed from the fuel system. If they can't fix the problem then I should be reimbursed for the car's value by BMW and not have it available to be on the road and cause an unnecessary accident. I am asking for your help in dealing with BMW to rectify this matter as they are unwilling to deal with me. The vehicle started running rough, starting rough, and idling high. The diagnostic codes indicated a failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. BMW has recalled these in all of the 2014-2018 diesel engines, but it appears the high-pressure fuel pumps are also failing in the gasoline engines, of which I own.

Started my car like normal and ran for 30 seconds after leaving Walmart after I picked up a few things then the car shut off out of no where.. attempted to start again and the car tried to turn over then even stopped doing that after a few attempts.. I had the car towed to my home.. my husband then inspected the vehicle and the high pressure fuel pump has failed causing my engine to lock up.. I have maintained this vehicle like I should because I loved my car and my husband is a mechanic.. This vehicle only with 127000.. this should of not happened I have read bmw is going to recall this but when my vin is ran nothing shows up.. I owe on this vehicle still and it really has put me in a bind financially with having to miss work and having to find other transportation.. this is ridiculous. I got no warning lights or any noise warnings.

2015 X5 diesel had its check engine light illuminate @ ~85,650 miles while driving normally at surface street speeds. Did not notice any driveability/performance issues, but took vehicle to dealer within a week. Check engine light would go on and off for the week leading up to dropping off. Dealer diagnosed as failure of 2 injectors. Cylinders 1 and 2. paid to have vehicle repaired and appears to be driving normally and no return of cel as of yet (about 50 miles). BMW has an extended 120,000 mile warranty (sib 01 09 19) on injectors for the model year 2016 and 2017 X5 diesel with the same engine and same injectors as well as various my 2015, 2016, and 2017 diesel vehicles. Coverage should be extended to model year 2015 X5 as well as believe it likely the 4 remaining original injectors will fail as well. Hopefully BMW will add extended warranty of the injectors to the 2015 my X5 diesels which would allow for reimbursement.

I randomly began smelling fumes in vehicle when stopped at traffic lights. Questioned my da at classic BMW of plano. He said not air or fuel filter, all is okay. A couple months later the car engine stopped at red light in the city of rowlett. I was able to get it started & into a lot, would not crank, had it towed, diagnosed as fuel injectors. My husband advised there was a recall, I questioned BMW usa, said only 2011-2014. I requested escalation to confirm no issues with 2015, was told nothing they could due unless reported by 'master' technician. I went forward with $1529 repair of 1 injector although research indicated all 6 should be replaced if 1 is bad. Sa insisted not necessary. Began smelling fumes again Jan 2020, expected another fi bad, diagnosed as catalytic converter, research indicates possibly caused by bad fuel injectors. Want to document because expecting others to have same issues at 85K+. my mfg warranty ended Dec 2020, car is regularly maintained by dealership yet they say no way to prevent. I believe issues are related to the start/stop

Driving down freeway with my young daughter in te SUV its completely shuts off can barely steer car off the bust highway to shoulder since everything is basically shut down. Have it towed to BMW dealer it is under bumper to bumper come tp find out its a catastrophic diesel fuel system failure where pump explodes and send metal pieces through the whole fuel system it is a 10-15K repair depending what part of country you are in. They also tell me that this happened to the vehicle one year before same catastrophic fuel system failure. There is no fix and after reading this has happened to countless people with BMW diesel vehicles! I find hard to believe BMW is not actively finding a fix for this but blaming the usa diesel fuel. Then dont sell your diesel vehicles here and preach how much better they are. I could have bought new gas X5 for same price I juts paid 4 month ago for cpo with 16K miles.

On 12/14/18 at 11pm on a dark road with my young kids in the backseat and wife as passenger, we were in motion at 35 mph when the car suddenly lost power. The dash indicated a drivetrain malfunction and the engine completely died. To make matters worse, this car has a transmission lock to prevent two-wheel towing that makes it near impossible to put the car in neutral. We are left sitting in the middle of a dark road around a blind curve and no way to move the car, and a flat-bed tow truck would not arrive for hours. BMW has diagnosed a high-pressure fuel pump failure that sent metal fragments throughout the fuel system. The entire fuel system including injectors must be replaced at a cost of over $14,000. I have learned that this same car had the same repair six months earlier by the previous owner. This car has suffered two catastrophic fuel system failures resulting in driver and occupants being stranded in very dangerous situations this year alone. Had this happened on the freeway at high speed, it could have caused a major accident with substantial injuries or even death as a result. A quick internet search reveals that this is a common problem with the X5 diesel high pressure fuel pump with many owners across the country reporting similar problems, some of whom state feeling lucky to have escaped without injury. It is highly possible that there are cases of this same vehicle causing tragic accidents that have not been tied back to the fuel pump due to excessive vehicle damage or perhaps driver death. BMW has refused to comment, but other BMW models have been recalled for fuel pump problems.

I have a 2015 X5 diesel. The car recently had check engine light come on. Dealership diagnosed the problem as metal shavings in the fuel system and had to replace the entire system which would have cost me $12000 or more. While I'm happy it's covered under warranty it seems that this is a big problem and many have reported this issue. I don't know how metal shavings end up in the fuel system. I'm worried that this is a problem that can happen again and if it's outside warranty then BMW will not replace it. BMW need to extend warranty on this component. Also metal shavings in the fuel injectors can cause significant damage to car and is unsafe. Some have complained that smoke was emanating from the car when this happened.

In January 2015, I bought a BMW X5 35D twun turbo (N57T engine) oe equipped with a Bosch high pressure fuel pump ("hpfp") part #0445010667. Two weeks ago, I was driving at 75 mph in the 4th lane of a 6 lane highway when my car jerked and a "drive train malfunction" message came on the screen. I was towed to the dealer thinking this would be covered under warranty - the car is less than 3 years old! I'm told that there was a "catastrophic failure" of the high pressure fuel pump that I did not cause, had no warning of and could not have prevented. That failure caused metal shavings to break off, damage the fuel injectors and spread throughout the entire fuel system requiring replacement at the cost of $15,000! I was then told that my car was out of warranty because of the mileage (I drive my sons to lots of baseball tournaments so I am over 50K miles after this summer). I asked BMW na to stand behind their vehicle and repair it under warranty because no 2.5 year old vehicle, especially a BMW, should have this happen to it. Indeed, a pump failure, no matter how catastrophic, should not require replacement of the entire fuel system. There are lawsuits out there over these hpfps and BMW has recalled over 150,000 vehicles and extended the warranties on many of the hpfps to 120K, but apparently not mine, even though it experienced the same type of failure, is made by the same company (Bosch) and out of the same material (different part number). BMW has offered to fix it at warranty cost and contribute 50%, but that is still over $6,000 or roughly 10% of the original cost of the vehicle. Please investigate this as it is dangerous and consumers need to be aware that this is still happening.
