So the i3 uses active cooling (the ac) to keep the battery cool. Which sounds neat until it chunks itself, and shoots metal through the lines.
Because the ac lines go through the battery for active cooling, the battery has to be discharged and dropped to get to the lines.
Because the battery is cooled by this ac system, the ac is a critical portion of the car. the battery will overheat without it. Then who knows?
Breakdown? Lithium fire? Explosion? your guess is as good as mine.
This malfunction has totaled the car. We are livid. BMW USA has refused to assist with the fix. It was over 4000 for diagnosis, and the repair will be even more.
We're tempted to walk and let the dealer keep it.
