My oil pump failed, I was going to put a new engine in it, but the vehicle had way too much rust under the engine to support a new one. The vehicle was almost 15, with over 200,000 miles, so it would have been a huge loss.

When this happened, I was about to go out of town, I stopped into a store, mentioned to someone that I hoped that my car would at least get me there and back. It did exactly that...careful what you wish for. The vehicle recently had a coil go bad and had similar symptoms, so I assume that was happening again, and figured that it would deal with it after my trip. I kind a blew it off and just hoped to get there.

The engine got to speed very slowly, did not want to go over 50 mph, at very best (same thing it did when a coil went bad). Then when I stopped to turn around, the vehicle would shut off when put into reverse, but started back up. On my way back home, the vehicle did not want to go over 25mph, I figured that the coil was done at that point and just wanted to get it home without a tow bill. I pulled into my driveway, shut the car off, and went into the house just to grab the spare key, and came back out. The vehicle would not start no matter how hard I tried, nothing at all, did not even try to turn over. I was going to drop it off at the shop so it would be there in the morning. When the morning came, I tried again, same results. I had it towed to my local mechanic to find out that it was the oil pump. Bummer. I wish I could go back and tell myself what I found out that day, but I cannot. I wish the vehicle would have at least given me a low oil warning, check engine light or something. Why was there no idiot light?!?! Why would they put a crappy crucial part in a vehicle?
