Scenario 1: stop the car, leave the car (no key left in the vehicle!), leave one of the doors open. Open the trunk. Imagine: your wife is getting the baby out of the car seat while you are unloading the trunk, so this scenario is very, very realistic - at least for us. Close the trunk while any door is still open. The car will honk (chirp) 3 times. It does not really matter if the door was opened before or after the trunk, what matters is that the door is open when you close the trunk.
There is absolutely no way to block this stupid noise and I have spent quite a bit of time with GM customer care on the phone until they have given up. And after that I have found that I am not alone with this issue and apparently it does not happen with 2013 model - we have tried with my friend who has one.
The honking is very, very loud - I have to keep the trunk open until all the doors are closed and sometimes this is very inconvenient.
I may understand what they tried to do - warn you about "forgotten" door. But they could be a bit more intelligent. Or at least install a small speaker for these "proximity alerts" so I do not wake up my entire street at 6am or at midnight.
Scenario 2: stop the car, leave the car (no key left in the vehicle!), close the doors. Open the trunk, close the trunk. The car will honk (chirp) 3 times after few seconds. For this scenario I have found the workaround - passive lock mode. If activated, the car will lock the doors after few seconds. Unfortunately, this setting does not affect Scenario 1 in any way.
