This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The one piece dashboard has been cracking in multiple places for approximately 5 years. I see that there are multiple, multiple, multiple complaints regarding this issue across various models all of which occurred after the one piece dashboard was implemented. I also saw that a class action suit was filed and dismissed because this is not a -??safety issue-??. In my opinion, this is a safety in the event of an air bag deployment especially with the multiple cracks (which have occurred over the years). We take immaculate care of our vehicles and rarely trade them in under 10 years. We are also retired and don-??t have the luxury of dropping 2k on a dashboard replacement. We respectfully request the replacement of the dashboard under manufacturer defect. Please advise if this is possible.
I got into my 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche and found that the dash board had cracked. The crack is approx. 6"s long and runs from the windshield to the top of the rise above speedometer. It just happened and I don't know what to do about it. Can you help?
Dashboard cracking and pieces coming free and present safety hazard - sharp edges. - paid to repair. Dash cracked again. Interior door handles break and prevent egress from vehicle - 4 times twice on front drive side, once front passenger side and once on rear passenger side. Extremely unsafe situation - paid to repair all 4 times. Door pull broken on driver and passenger front door prevents proper closing of door. - still broken. Only remedy according to GM is to replace entire door panel.
I noticed about 6 years ago my dash starting to crack on my 2013 Avalanche it has now cracked completely across and come towards the steering wheel which to me is a safety hazard I did notice that there had been a class action lawsuit but it was denied but I still think it is a safety hazard when I'm driving I hit a bump it cracks more eventually it's going to crack and fall into my lap
Two small cracks started in my dash near the defrost hole, and now its spread all the way up onto the top of my steering/dash board instrument panel. It was not caused by hitting anything and just keeps getting bigger and rattling/shaking when I drive
Instrument panel (dashboard) cracked in two places. One by the passenger side airbag and the other right above the steering wheel. From what I investigated, this seems to be a rather common issue.
Door handles. Driver door, failed 2 times, front passenger side failed 1 time, rear passenger side failed 1 time. Could not enter or exit the vehicle via door with failed hardware. Occupants had to exit vehicle via an alternative door. The fix was to replace the door handle each time. I've been told by the dealership as well as an autobody shop that this is a common issue with the chrome handles. Cost to date spent repairing this issue is in excess of $800
I purchased the vehicle new and after some time my dashboard started cracking breaking up around passenger side air bag and just above instrument panel on drivers side its and getting worse
