Bolt LT Ev

This is the third event for this 2019 Bolt LT. The dealer reported that the replacement high voltage battery disconnect relay was defective and has to be replaced. Plus, the drive control module has to be replaced. The Bolt entered the service department on November 2, 2021 and still has not been returned to us more than 2-months later. Here is the total so far: Visit 1 in service on 07/13/2021 for 47-days; Visit 2 in service 2-days later on 09/04/2021 for 25-days; Visit 3 in service 2-days later on 10/1/2021 for 22-days; Visit 4 in service 9-days later on 11/02/2021 -- it is still in service 62-days later and the earliest we might expect to get it will be at least 2-weeks more (still waiting on the drive control module). Totals as of 01/04/2022: In service 156-days; In our possession 15-days; 1300 miles driven (most of which were accumulated in only 6-days in our possession since nobody wanted to drive it the other 9-days it was in our possession).

Bolt Premier

  • 7,700 miles

I like this car when it is working. I like the height of the seat for getting in and out of the car. On February 27, the car stopped working.

3 miles from a level 3 charging station (Electrify America) at Walmart near Interstate 5, I lost drive power. The instrument panel said I had 45 miles left, then 0 miles left. Software put transmission in neutral, so I was able to pull onto paved shoulder, then gravel shoulder.

I called AAA, and got a tow to the charging station. The vehicle would not take a charge. I then called Chevrolet roadside assistance, and got a tow to the Chevrolet dealer, a half mile away. If this happens again, I will call Chevrolet first.

The event happened February 27, and it is now March 10. After elevating the complaint to regional level, the technician found a fault with the fusible link in the high voltage system. There is no date quoted for delivery of the part.

When the vehicle became immobile, I could not shut down to preserve the 12V battery. Without 12V power, the vehicle will not shift out of park. On another site, an owner suggested removing a cable from the 12V battery to conserve charge. (That was to deal with a bad 12V battery.)

I plan to investigate other manufacturers, to see if they offer a small electric hatchback with elevated seating.
