Affected Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM:FUEL RAIL

Summary
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a crank no start issue after sitting overnight below the freezing point. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code U1000. Technician will gain access to the engine harness above the fuel rail. After gaining access to the harness unsecure the harness from the retainers. Now the conduit can be opened to gain access to the wires. Technician will need to find the largest gauge red wire and violate with purple wire in the harness in sure these are the largest gauge wires. After finding the correct wires cut the violate with purple wire near the middle of the wiring that is accessible then cut the red 13mm (.50 inch) longer. Technician will need to strip both violate with purple wires sides and then the top red wire. Do not strip the bottom red wire. After the wires are stripped twist the top red wire and violate with purple wire together. Install a DuraSeal splice sleeve part number 19168447 (Blue) or equivalent to the exposed wires, using the EL-38125-10 splice sleeve crimping tool crimp in the number three nest. Technician will need to gently pull the wires to insure there is a good crimp then heat the splice sleeve with a heat gun to 500 to 700 degrees Fahrenheit. The wires will need to be taped up and placed back in the conduit. Reinstall all the parts that were removed to gain access to the harness and retest.
