"ABS fault" reads on my dash in my 2005 Chevy Colorado. Have had my truck in and out of the Chevy dealership 5 times already. Have had the wheel speed sensor replaced costing me a pretty penny of over 300 dollars and come to find out it was not the cause of the issue. Has been checked over and over by the dealership computer reader and each time has come up with nothing causing the issue and has not been fixed. Problem occurs everytime I drive the vehicle normally as soon as I turn the vehicle on and the causing the ABS to run automatically on a dry surface making it very hard to stop when needing to. I am fed up with the problem and request it to be fixed. Yet to be done!

This failure started without cause nor warning. ABS problem. When truck starts and is driven on dry pavement, the first or second time the brake pedal is pressed, the ABS will engage, limiting my braking ability. A minute later "ABS fault" will appear on my dash. The brakes will work fine for the rest of my drive, except no ABS will be available. This event can happen several times daily, but usually during the first morning start. Nothing has been done yet, still researching.

ABS fault light stays on. Brakes don't work well. Researching this problem it appears that there are many 2005 Chevrolet Colorados with similar issues. I no longer feel safe driving my truck. GM should be held accountable for this.

ABS alarms at various times, which disables the ABS system. There is a technical service bulletin for this problem. So far no recall. The left front wheel is the source of this problem. It appears that Chevy Colorados have this condition.

My 2005 Colorado brakes will lock up when cold. Especially after some moisture. This is very annoying and a safety concern since, I have gooten close to gettijng rear-ended when they lock up. This problem seems to invalidate my ABS. The truck started doing it at about 30,000 miles. I have had the brakes checked, and they are fine. My 1993 S-10 did the same exact thing. I eventually got rid of the S-10, but now I have the very same problem with this Colorado. As far as I am concerned this is a very serious safety issue. Help. Helop. Help. Help.

I am stationed overseas in england and road get very slippery. There are dealerships over here, but they don't mess with american trucks. Everytime I get going, my ABS keeps faulting out and there is no error code popping up, but yet my brakes keep going out and I am wondering what's going to happen when all the brakes go out and I can't stop or even injure someone else or even worse my kids.

2005 Chevy Colorado brake locks up on front driver side leading to hard left pull on vehicle trajectory and severe over heating and smoke emitting from wheel well. I have been forced numerous times to pull over to allow the wheel to cool down so it doesn't start a fire. Usually after a cool down the brake system responds for a while. I have had the Chevrolet dealer repair the brakes and was charged for the service. Chevrolet doesn't consider this a warranty issue and will do nothing about it even though there have been many complaints about their brake systems on the Colorado. I have owned the vehicle since 2005 and have had continual problems with the brake system and the ABS failure warning lights and audible alerts. I recently had the brakes inspected and cleaned and new pads installed by monroe and was informed that this is common problem with this type of Chevrolet ABS braking systems.

I have a 2005 Colorado crew cab 4X4. On several different occasions the brake pedal had to be pumped to stop the vehicle. On wet roads it is like driving in the snow, it will slide in what ever direction you are traveling. I took it to the Chevrolet dealer and they had to replace the right hub and right sensor and put on new brake pads and shoes and it cost me $1,181.80 and I still have no idea what caused the problem. When the brakes work they are very good but when they don't work it presents a big problem for me and my family. The brakes have always squeaked since the first day I drove it off the dealers lot and they are still squeaking today. I would take it back and have it looked at again, but I can't afford it !!!!!!!

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving 40 mph he attempted to slow down while making a slight turn and the brakes locked as soon as they were engaged. Due to the locking of the brakes the contact was forced to crash into a ditch when the brakes locked; however, he was not injured. The contact has experienced the same failure on 5 different occasions. The vehicle had been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 33000. Updated 11/17/09 the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled.

I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado 2wd. I have a ABS problem, the ABS fault comes on while driving down the road. Checked codes getting C0035 C0040 C0220. I found bad wheel hub on left side. Replaced hub and ABS sensor. Still had problem checked codes again, told me the right side ABS sensor bad. I had replaced hub and sensor on the right side. The problem still there, spoke with a GM rep. Told me there was nothing they could for me except bring it in and check the problem. I am a ase certified mechanic so I do all my own work. With this problem I have ABS stops while driving on dry normal surface roads at low speeds the truck will dart across the road and not stop until you pump the brakes. The problem has been happening everyday for a month. I have 75,550 miles on the truck, when I first bought the truck it only did it when the roads where wet.not sure what to do about the issue except GM needs to recall and repair the issue. I have over $650 tied up in the brake system on this truck only because I do my own work, if I went to the dealer who knows what it would cost me.

The ABS light comes on and off frequently. I brought to dealership and was told that its because the hub bearing and wheel sensors are rubbing against ABS light wire to cause it to turn on. And there is a bulletin for this problem but not recall so I have to pay for it. Not my problem that GM knows of problem with hub bearing rubbing my ABS light wire. When ABS light is on my ABS brakes do not work. This cant be safe the ABS coming on and off as you drive. Needs to be recalled. The bulletin number is #pit3460N ABS light on with ebcm dtcs C0035 C0040 C0220 and or C0221. ABS and or brake light may illuminate at times.

ABS braking system. When it is sandy, wet, slippery out I go to apply my brakes it makes a errn noise and the truck does not stop for 8-10 ft after that I have been in 3 minor fender benders. I have brought this to the dealer 3 times to look at it and they tell me that this is how it works(not stopping ? ) is there a place I can go to get this checked out.

On way to work, I started braking while slowly coming to a red light. My brakes did not stop me and I crashed into another truck. I had extensive front end damage, while the other vehicle had none. When I applied the brakes, they went to the floor.also noticed pulling to the right....had new tires and alignment at sears(well after the accident) and, they said brakes were fine and did an alignment. When I had the accident damage repaired, I asked the dealer ship to check the brakes. They said they pulled the wheels and checked the brakes and road checked the truck, the braking incident failed to happen for them. So they claimed. I have also had other incidences where the wheels will spin upon acceleration from a stop on wet roads and also locking up on wet roads, and a grinding noise. Des someone have to get killed in order for GM to send out a recall notice for this defect? my truck now has 37000 miles O it but the problems have been persisting for several years. I also had to replace the two front tires at 20,000 miles( which I had done at sears after the accident) as they went completely bald. These what recourse do I have?

Purchased 2005 Colorado with 33,000 vehicle May 2008. Less than a year later the ABS light came on with the ABS light flashing on dic. There are other complaints on file with NHTSA about this very same problem but still no recall, some resulting in crashes. Spoke with Chevrolet yesterday but they are not willing to do anything about it. I guess there has to be more crashes or some deaths to get a recall on this dangerous situation! there is now 49,000 miles on it.

Purchased truck in November 2007 with 17,000 miles. Truck now has 26,663 miles. No problems occurred with the braking system until September 2, 2008. While on vacation, stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, traffic began to move due to a green light. When the light turned red again, I pressed brakes to stop. Experienced a horrible grinding noise and brakes would not work to stop the vehicle. Very close to a collision. The ABS light then came on and "ABS fault" began to scroll. Pulled off of the road, husband looked at brakes and could see no visible problems. Shut the truck off and restarted it a moment later and the light and scrolling were gone. Truck has done this everytime it has been driven since then. Got a mechanic to read the code and he says the ABS speed sensor on the left front wheel is bad and needs to be replaced. I have seen many complaints on the site reporting the same problem. Also, several GMC trucks have been recalled for the same problem. This is a very dangerous issue. Do we have to wait for someone to get killed for a recall to be issued?

After re-lining rear brakes they lock up and grab after about 1000 miles. Relining has been done two times by repair shop, same conditions after noted mileage. Brakes are even worse when it rains or during high humidity conditions. Lock up and/or grabbing tends to cause temporary loss of control on wet surfaces. Repair shop has inquired to manufacturer regarding this condition, manufacturer is aware that this condition exists, but states that they have not issued any tsb's or recalls. I spoke with several other owners of the same make and model, they too are experiencing the same conditions. Incidents with this problem have been prevalent for about 6 months.

: the contact stated the brakes felt soft, and there was a metal-on-metal squealing while braking normally. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer and the brakes were replaced 17 times. The dealer determined there was premature wear on brakes. The most recent time the vehicle was repaired, the brakes were worn after 2 weeks. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the wear.
