I started tp smell gas in my garage and thought maybe I just overfilled the tank but as the days went on the smell increased. About 2 weeks later, the check engine light went on and I took the car to my mechanic. He told me the fuel tank was ruptured on the top where the metal coupling met the plastic. I was very surprised because I never saw any gas on my garage floor. Then I realized that I not only could have had a fire in my car but also in my garage which is attached to my house. The mechanic said that the problem was the plastic fuel tank but I don't care what type of material it was I only know I could have easily killed both myself and my wife. I have the $2,000 repair bill from the mechanic as evidence but not the fuel tank.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the fuel tank straps fractured and caused the fuel tank to drop abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the fuel tank, filler neck, fuel lines and fuel tank straps needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 85,000.
