Automatic transmission shift handle locks in park and you can not shift into gear. This is a known issue and GM even notes how to over-ride the problem in the owners manual (see page 2-31), when it happens. Since this happens so often, and to so many owners (see internet comments on problem), a permanent fix should be done and covered by the manufacturer. In an emergency situation you may not have time to play with the shifter and this can lead to an accident or personal injury. While GM does note to contact a dealer about this problem in the owners manual, no recalls seem to have been made?
