I've only made 3 payments, but had it at the shop 3 times. The noise under hood drives me nuts, then was overheating. Cochran Subaru took me for a ride.

Cruze 2LT 1.4L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,321 miles

OK PEOPLE. You're going to want to read this if you own, or are planning to own, a 2014 Chevy Cruze. Mine is a 2LT with a 1.4L Turbo, but I would assume this problem extends beyond this trim.

I purchased the vehicle new in July of 2014. It ran great, no problems, no accidents, dare I say, SEAMLESSLY. Then summer of 2015 hit. Not that it was an overly hot summer for my area, but it's a basically given that your A/C will be on 24/7 once June hits. Naturally, I cranked my A/C, as anyone would, on a hot June day, and I noticed a disgusting squeaking coming from my car that was NOT there before. If it was, it was too quiet for me to ever hear, even driving with the windows down prior to this.

It wasn't even subtle, either. I'm certain my neighborhood's normally quiet atmosphere was utterly mortified by the sound. I was so upset that I called a cab to get to work that day. I thought maybe I had left it parked in the sun too long, or something else equally as naïve at first. The next day, I flipped the key in the ignition and the glorious squeaking that had petrified my ears before was, surprise!, STILL THERE. I took a sick day from work, took my poor baby into the purchasing dealership's mechanic shop, and prayed the surgery would be quick and painless (mostly on my wallet). To my surprise, I was initially told the problem was obvious and it should be fixed in no time. So I waited. And waited. And waited. And after I turned 100 years old, the same man came back to me and told me there didn't appear to be any problem. I'm certain I laughed in his smug face. I explained again what happened, yada, yada, yada, and no resolution was ever met that day.

I dared to explore other options. I KNEW that this brand new vehicle shouldn't be doing this. I visited 2 other competing mechanics shops that same day, only to find that the elusive squeaking I had been hearing was, according to the "professionals", fictional. SO I'M JUST CRAZY THEN, HUH?!

Nope. The same squeaking ever squeaks on, and has now become one with me, much like my children are. It's debateable which one causes me more stress. It's gotten so loud over the years, and so utterly embarrassing, that I generally drive my partner's car when I can, to avoid the strange looks while stopped at a light.

Unless someone personally knows how to fix ANYTHING on a vehicle, I would highly reccomend avoiding buying the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, new or used.

Wish me luck friends, as my payments on this shitbox still roar on as feircely as the noise does.

squeaking noise at idle

Car drives just fine, but under idle the car makes a loud squeaking noise, sounds like it's from the timing belt, but i can't be sure. No check engine light or anything but i know it's not normal because it was not like this when we drove off the dealership, and it's really loud, can hear from inside the house(!) We took it in once, and they found nothing wrong with it (?) We love this car except for the seats..but at 20K miles the car should not be doing this.

Update from Sep 25, 2016: Finally found the problem, the problem was a vacuum leak. No check engine light or anything, just super loud.

They replaced a seal on the right crankshaft. Problem solved...still have other problems though.

Cruze LT 1.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 31,900 miles

Found out that the car was MISSING a valve in the intake manifold and it finally caused a vacumn leak and crankshaft seal leak. They replaced and fixed all of it but what other damage has been caused by me driving 31k miles without a valve!!! They refuse to look for cracks in the engine unless I pay for them to look.

Cruze 2LT/RS 1.4L Turbo

Engine was making a very loud ticking sound, took it to the dealership and found out that my #1 intake cylinder valve had collapsed causing the ticking sound. Got it fixed, lasted about a month!!! took it back in three different times and they said nothing was wrong with it!! WTF!! They kept telling me that its a normal ticing sound. i decided to test drive the exact trim level and package of the Cruze I own...no ticking sound whats so ever!!

Cruze LS 1.8L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500 miles

car has been taken to dealer--chevy factory techs say noise is normal--problem is, this is the second 2014 cruze we have owned--other car was traded off due to wreck--it did not make this noise---sounds like valve or lifter noise. This is the standard engine and not the turbo that is in the LT model

Cruze LT 1.4L Turbo

throaty noise between 18-2200rpm

Well I've brought my Cruze in 6 times and they still haven't fixed it. The keep saying that it's some trim under the hood that is rattling. I'm positive that it's something on the exhaust system that is causing the issue, but the dealership is full of morons.
