The Chevy Cruze has the active shutoff for fuel efficiency, so I am guessing the problem is somehow related to that system. The car will shut off completely on occasion when you shift from drive to reverse, or reverse to drive. The whole car shuts off and you have to put the car back into park or neutral, before manually restarting the car with the push button. It has not done this while driving at high speeds or is using the manual shift button on the road, it normally occurs when backing out of the driveway. Not sure what the problem is or how to fix but it is a concern.
