GM should be out of business for what they done with the 05-06 Equinox. It should be recalled for head gaskets and the oil consumption crap. This is the last vehicle I buy from G.M. I got a bunch of money in this piece of s***. I changed the motor because of a bad head gasket, only to find out the motor I bought, came out of an '05 Equinox that had a bad head gasket. We bail GM out and this is the payback we get. They outta run GM out of business. All these complaints of head gaskets and you don't recall them. Crooks - I'm telling everyone I know - don't buy a GM.

Engine overheated. Mechanic replaced the thermostat. 2 weeks later it overheated again. Blown head gasket. This was in combination with a leaking condenser, bad coil, need to replace spark plugs, ignition failure, right after I just replaced the battery. Total to fix it is over $4k and that is IF the engine does not need to be replaced. There are also known transmission issues for this year's model. I've LOVED this car so much. It has been everything I needed. Sadly, it's time to let it go.

3RD GM product with this same issue. Not sure yet if intake or/and head gasket, but definitely losing coolant and not on the ground. How have they gotten away with this? I can't fathom why I'd buy into this again, but I did and am paying the price.

My 2005 chevy equinox has been over heating. I change radiator, thermostat, water pump twice. Flushed system, am no longer using dexcool i use prestone antifreeze. i am now changing reservoir hope it helps. if not getting read of this piece of crap, and never buying another gm car again. i advice others to never purchase gm cars, they are no good. I have two parents and a little sister to support and get around to doctors appointments and have to use other people cars to do so. Im sick to my stomach over this dang car. They need to stop sales of this vehicle and other gm cars. They are money hungry fools.

As with many others who seemed to have this car/problem, this vehicle is for my daughter who is in college. It overheated. One place recommended a new water-pump. When we took it to a different place for a second opinion, they recommended a new radiator. Since it had lots of rust in fluid, we decided it would probably need a new radiator anyway, so we went w/ that. They also flushed system numerous times and replaced thermostat. The next day, the problem was worse. Whereas before the car would overheat when idling, now it overheats when driving or idling.

As reported by many other people, this seems to be a defective vehicle. Why is a big company like Chevy/GM allowed to sell a lemon like this and not be responsible for an obvious design/manufacturing flaw? I have owned cars for over 43 years now and:

A. Never had one this bad.

B. Had numerous recalls for parts that weren't even a problem. The company fixed them and it was just an added annoyance. So now we have a vehicle with a real, systemic problem and where's the factory recall?

Update from Aug 27, 2015: Turns out, as with so many other people who have had this problem, it is a result of a blown head gasket. It would cost between $1250 to $1500 to replace it. And, according to many other people who have had this problem, it is likely to go out again in a fairly short amount of time.

This car is by far the worst lemon I've ever experienced in over 45 years of owning vehicles. I would never even think about purchasing a Chevy again and would strongly advise others to steer clear of this sham of an automobile company. Chevys are definitely the worst car on the market... no exceptions.

Hate to say this but as I had first thought, it was a blown head gasket. This model is known for it. Mine was overheating, especially when I stop. Never a sign of fluid leakage. Water pump was working, as was the thermostat. Took it to Bruner Chevrolet in Brownwood, TX. I got it out of the shop yesterday $2,116

Driving down highway car is fine. When you get in traffic or have to use stop lights after long highway distance the car starts to overheat. I replaced the thermostat. Car seems to be getting hot quicker now. Haven't went a long distance. Afraid to. I changed thermostat after talking to a person with same make, model, and year car that had a blown gasket.

Test drove a 2005 Chevy Equinox from Atlantic Hyundai 4/10/14 with 77,1xx miles on it , Drove fine but test drive was only 2 miles so the car did not have an opportunity to get to operating temperature. dealership was unaware of interstate laws with registration. had to wait 6 weeks for the paperwork/registration to process. Finally Got the Vehicle at 3PM on Monday 5/19/14 with 78,xxx Miles?? strange since i had a deposit on the vehicle, Vehicle Broke Down 20 miles outside dealership on a busy Highway approximately 3:25pm same day. Overheated 3 Times Temperature Gauge Fluctuated Wildly . Dealership was not helpful at all and would not offer a solution other than going to a Jiffy Lube to get it fixed. Had to use last AAA Towing to get the vehicle back to the dealership. Blown Head Gasket in My Opinion, Radiator Reservoir Bubbling and exhaust smelled of Coolant badly. Oil Level was 3X too high with milky coolant smell and Drivers side headlight was out. They claim a 200 Point Inspection? Dealership seemingly Dodged all my calls and concerns about the vehicle for 2 days. Wanted to return the vehicle but Dealer would not accept a return. Vehicle still sits on Dealership Lot. They called me and said it was fixed but I believe the problem is more than a broken Thermostat as I placed my hand on the Thermostat hose and it was red hot and it would not be that hot if coolant was stuck in the engine. Plus a broken Thermostat would Cause Coolant to Leak into the Oil Pan. I cancelled my Registration and Insurance and Notified the bank of my Intent of not Paying for a Vehicle I do not have in my Possession since they will not accept the vehicle back. very bad experience. and i will Post my Experience everywhere I have an opportunity to on the internet to warn people of the bad experience I had. My credit is surely ruined because of this and I have to consider any action available to me to salvage my credit and attempt to recoup my $2400.00 deposit.

Bought this vehicle from a respected used car lot. Had the carfax report and test drove the vehicle. Seemed like a nice car and suitable for my daughter in college. After one year the car started to overheat, so we sent it to a garage to have it looked at and serviced. This vehicle has had all standard service. oil changes, air filter, fluid checks etc. Upon servicing the vehicle we were informed it needed a radiator, thermostat and water pump. This cost was approx 400.00. My daughter drove the vehicle for 2 days before same problem happened again. Put the car on the computer and the code P1258 and P0302 came up. Was told to replace the engine coolant temperature sensor and done so. Still did not fix the problem. Replaced the thermostat again, still did not fix the problem. Upon further internet search found that the probable cause of the overheat was a blown head gasket. Wow! Are you kidding me! We towed the vehicle to a local mechanic because it was 2 and 1/2 hours from home, (another 250.00). Upon further checking and internet searching to find the signs of our problem, sure enough it was as everyone else was saying. The car is now useless until the garage gets it fixed. If I would have done a problem report search online before buying this vehicle, we def would have bought something else. This really po's me because this vehicle was so my daughter could go to college classes and work, only to be a bigger stress and burden to her. So we are definitely going to trade the vehicle off on a more dependable and better made make. I feel that Chevrolet should do something about this problem, at least reimburse people for the repairs, but why should they care. They are rich and the working class is virtually screwed. Please ppl do online research before buying any used vehicle or new for that matter. So you don't end up like us and the probable 10000 ppl that purchased a lemon. Ugh to Chevrolet!!! Shame on you for failing your consumers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am a mechanic, why i am not even sure, because we get to work on some real junk, i always thought it would be neat to work on new stuff, clean, not old and rusty, hard to find parts for, and so on, wow to have a gm product in my bay tieing up a lift for a few days, and for what a problem they know about, that will cost this customer over one thousand bucks, shame on gm,,,, you could drive bmw, volkswagen, or another high end car with killer service and great bumper to bumper coverage, instead of this piece of crap,,,, shame , shame, shame, i would never buy a gm product, they absolutely know about this, we will park out front and make it known to this whole little town , not to buy, american jobs , wow are we going in the wrong direction,,,,,, a better gasket is made for this, some head work, and cross your fingers the heads are not cracked, and the catalics are not shot from all the crap going out the pipe,,,, shame,,,, oh yeah new head bolts,,,,, good luck to all others who own this crapped out barely any real nice features, and priced way to high,,,,,,, sorry to all who work to build and market this junk, but we are american also,

Well let's just begin by saying how much I want to trade this car in. I'm a college student who received this car for my 16th birthday present, which was previously owned by my father. He bought this car pretty much brand new in 2005 and never had any problems with it except for a hard start. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, just that it had a hard start. OK? So, this car still has that hard start. But that's besides the other problems that I have dealt with after receiving this car as a gift.

First of which is, I have no money hint, hint "college student", but I put my time and effort into this car by keeping it up to date on all tune ups and oil changes, because it's my car that is supposed to get me from A to B. So the first problem I run into is that it feels like the car is just going to stall going down the road, highway, up a hill, anywhere. So I had the spark plugs changed and wires changed, which are supposed to be under warranty until 100,000 miles. Which is also another defect that GM needs to look into. That fixed that problem after $100 to $150 dollars later.

Then, seriously the next week it begins to overheat. By this time, the car will be paid off in a matter of 2 weeks what do you know right? So, I checked the water and such. They water was a little low, but nothing to overheat a car. Then changed the thermostat thinking that could possibly be the problem. That worked ohh for about a week or so. Until I was driving to school, which is an hour away, and I hear my fan turn on which is telling me it's getting hot. So I look down and what do you know my car is on the verge of overheating. Then I pull over to maybe diagnose the problem. (you know the awesome mechanic that I am) I looked under the car to see a puddle of water, popped the hood and no water was leaking anywhere. So then I try to turn my car on, and now it won't start because it overheated so bad, it just killed itself.

And, now here I am with a car that runs, but overheats everyday and has no idea what it is. Because I did have the pressure check on my head gaskets and such, the exact words from the mechanic "The pressure is great!". Thank you GM for making such a wonderful car. HA!

I recently took the car after it overheated with my newborn in the car. We live in a small city and I took it 5 minutes away from the house and I read the instruction manual and had to cut the car off.

As for the engine light always on. I took it to Firestone and they told me that it was an Mechanic recall and the oxygen levels in the gas differ (when using different gases) and the car recognizes the different oxygen levels. Told me it would cost 200 to repair when it was an automotive recall.

will be selling car since it's not reliable had to replace front rotors too this year very unhappy with treatment at dealership service department wouldn't listen, accused me of placing some other type of fluid in cooling system I told him over and over again that there were similar cases on the internet about the way the coolant turns a thick orange coolant instead of staying pink I also showed him a copy of a Chevy work order showing that I had already had trouble with the coolant system a year ago had to wait a week to get car back since they had to send the head gaskets out for inspection ( hopefully that wasn't a lie)
