On 7 Feb. 2013 I took my vehicle into my local Chevy dealer to have it checked out as there was a constant smell of fuel. I was informed that the fuel tank would need to be dropped to locate the cause of the fuel leak though there was no visible sign of leaking fuel. I was informed that the fuel module that set above the fuel tank had cracked and was causing the smell/leak. I was infomed that to repair the issue it would cost me over $1200 to repair. I contacted GM and was informed that my vehicle was not involved in the current recall that is ongoing in four other states. I inquired as to why and was informed that my vehicle was not registered nor did I reside in one of the states and there was nothing they could do. I informed GM that it should not matter as to were I lived that they should recall all Equinox as this is a safety issue that should be corrected. I was given reference # from GM in case there is a decision to recall the Equinox for this problem. As other complaints have stated it should not matter were the vehicle is registered if there is this type of problem it should be fixed by GM at no cost to the consumer.

When I went to start the engine it would take a while, shortly after, we started noticing a very strong smell of gasoline coming from the fuel receptacle which got worse as time went by. A mechanic told us after inspecting that the fuel tank had a bad leak but wouldn't touch it because he know of a recall for this problem. When we took it to the dealer it turned out it was the fuel pump but we were told that the recall did not apply to my vehicle.

I kept smelling a strong odor of gasoline and even when people would just walk by my vehicle the could smell it. I looked online to see if there was a safety problem like this and there was a recall on my type of vehicle for this very same problem. I called trying to get it fixed without me having to pay for it but they said my VIN number was not one that was recalled. I had to get it fixed becuase I was a safety hazard. It cost me $790 and I am a single mother and can't afford to pay for it myself. I think it is only right that I be reimbursed for my costs.

My car started to smell like gasoline inside the vehicle. I took it the shop and they told me the gas tank had split into two. After they took the tank apart they also noticed the fuel pump had stopped working. I have found a recall for this problem in the Equinox's originally sold or currently registered in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Texas but mine was made in Canada and sold in Ohio.

The Equinox appears to have a fuel system failure. I have looked up Equinox recalls and there are over 40,000 of the same year, make model, my VIN is not included. The car has a strong gas smell coming from the back of the car. I have read testimony after testimony online of other people with the same year make and model also not being included in the recall. Last year we had to replace the egr valve as well and it appears it is in similar circumstance. (registering hundreds of complaints for it's failure as well) we would certainly like GM to make a totally recall on the fuel system failure that is evidentially extremely more wide spread than they are acknowledging. The dealership has said it is more than likely going to have to replace the pump starting at $900, as a teacher this is not a reasonable feat. Please help us get this problem fixed for both the fuel system and the egr valve. Thanks!

Detected smell of gasoline while parked among many other cars. Did not think much of it until at home detected smell of gasoline inside and out of the vehicle. Look around and saw gas dripping from the rear passenger side of car. Check under the car and it seemed like gas leaking from the top of the gas tank. Took vehicle to dealer and agreed on repair. Dealer had previously said cost would be approximately 500 dollars. When vehicle was at the garage I was told over 900 dollars to repair. I agreed, hoping there would eventually be a recall, since I had read of many complains on line. I was able to get the labor charged refunded to me. A few months later I received a safety recall notice. The letter specifically says "your 2007 model year Chevrolet Equinox, VIN xxxxxxxxxxxxx is involved in safety recall 12190. Etc. When to dealer, and the service guy say "your vehicle does not show any open recalls and that only certain one have that fuel pump module recall. I told him "look at the letter" but I got nowhere. True I had the vehicle repaired, but the letter mentions a refund. Plus, did I get the right replacement part or some other generic part? so why does my letter say your....is involved in safety recall..yet the dealer's system says "no" to this recall. By the way I did buy it in California and it's register also at California.

A fuel leak in the area of the fuel tank was detected. At first it was thought that the tank had cracked, but after the fuel tank was dropped a cracked plastic supply line leading into the fuel pump was found. I had the module replaced at my own expense. After the fuel pump was replaced I heard of a recall issued by GM for this exact problem, but when I contacted them they said that the recall was specific to certain VIN numbers that were located in the states of Arizona, Nevada and Texas and as my vehicle is registered in NY this recall does not cover my vehicle. How can a safety recall be issued for a specific problem and not cover all vehicles that have the same problem. The risk of fire from my leaky fuel pump was the same as the cars located in those other states. This makes absolutely no sense to me. A safety defect is a safety defect, no matter what state a car is in and should apply to all vehicles that have the same defect.. GM's refusal to remedy this is unconscionable and does nothing to enhance there reputation of building quality cars and standing behind them.

Strong gas smell from the tank area at appx 58000 mi. My mechanic could not locate the leak, said I would have to take it to the dealer. The dealer said it was not covered on a recall for several states. Am I mistaken, or didn't all these 07 Equinox's come from the same assembly plant "????" online research shows many complaint's with this same problem. At present my problem still exists (seems to be getting worse, smelling stronger) cannot afford the repair. If in the future I am able to purchase a new vehicle, I will certainly do so with a different car company. (maybe if I moved to------------------
