We started smelling gas in early May 2012. When the warning light came on, we took it into a mechanic, who determined it was the fuel module that was cracked and leaking and we paid a small fortune to get it replaced. In October of that year, GM announced a recall for this exact problem, but has repeatedly said our VIN is not on the list. I cannot see how this is possible. Why is the recall for just a few states" we live in Oklahoma, but the recall is for Texas. How is this possible? why is no-one pushing for a nationwide recall, and why can we not get reimbursed for the costs of our repairs" I hope you can help.

About a month ago we started smelling gas both inside and outside the vehicle. After a few weeks the vehicle was starting to have trouble starting where it would sound like the car was "flooded" and wouldn't turn over right away. I took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealership today and they diagnosed the problem as a cracked fuel module system that was leaking fuel. I have read thousands upon thousands of complaints regarding this part on this particular Equinox and there is even a recall on the part but in only 4 states which isn't fair to rest of the owners that are suffering the same problem.

I had been smelling a strong odor of gas so I took it to my mechanic to have a diagnosis of the problem, he said that there was a leak in the top of the gas tank and I should get a hold of GM to see what type of recall there was on this problem. So when I got home I checked on line and found there was a recall #12V45900, so I got a hold of GM and talked to customer rep. [xxx] telling her the problem I was having she said that she would have to have another person contact me, so [xxx] called me, I again told her the problem and she said I would have to take it to a Chevrolet dealership for a diagnosis, I told here I had already had one done but she said I had to have one done at the dealership, so with her on the line she called reliable Chevrolet and we set me a appointment for October 17th @ 8am. So on October 17th I took my Equinox to the dealership and they ran there diagnosis and told me the same thing I had already told them, also charging me $98.55 for that information, they also told me they would need to remove the gas tank to check further and that would take about 4 hrs @ $98.55 per hr, I told them I could not afford to have that done and I would contact GM as soon as I got home, they also said I shouldn't be driving it cause it was dangerous. [xxx] contacted me back the next day and said there was nothing GM could do for me even though they know there is a problem but because the recall has not been published they cant help me. She also told me I could have it repaired myself and when they published the recall I could get reimbursed. I told her I work a minimum wage job and could not afford that. I again ask her if they know there is a problem why not fix it and again she said that the recall has not been published and there was nothing they would do for me. All I am asking is to get my Equinox fixed and no longer have a gas smell.

This model and year related to Chevrolet NHTSA campaign # 12V459000. Gasoline leak, as listed on GM recall, had occurred in July of this year/2012 at 63997 odometer miles. Gasoline was leaking on top of fuel tank and not driven, for safety precautions, until dealer could look at and repair. Vehicle owner had to pay for repair. Dealer, at that time, was not aware of any other problem with this defective module. This vehicle is not in a warm weather state as listed on recall, but vehicle did have a major fuel leak and module had to be replaced. Owner is original purchaser of this vehicle.

The fuel pump and fuel line for the 2007 Chevy Equinox is hazardous. The gasoline delivery system is faulty. My vehicle has less than 67,000 and is leaking gas near the tank. In researching 2007 Chevy Equinox online complaints, I have found this to be very common for this vehicle year and make;however, GM has not recalled this. My vehicle smells like gas from far distance.as I had to drive it back to my house it gave me a headache, made me sick to my stomach and dizzy, which is a huge hazard while driving your vehicle. There is a pan underneath the vehicle which holds on to all of the gas that has leaked out of the gas delivery system. If parked on a tilt the gas leaks out of the pan. I am pregnant and have two little boys that were in the vehicle with me when the gas smell took over the car. I called Chevrolet customer service and their is nothing they can do. With so many complaints out there for this same make and model something should be done for the safety of GM's consumers. I understand that GM recalled some Chevy volts, and Saturn ion's for the same issue. GM should consider all makes with the same hazardous issue. www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/Chevrolet/Equinox/fuel+system.

We have noticed a very distinctive smell of fuel coming from the rear of the vehicle. It would happen coming back from a drive. Could not find a leak. Mechanic found the fuel pump and hoses were corroded and had to be replaced. There are hundreds of complaints for the same thing, Chevrolet appears to not have any concerns but the smell is very strong and could cause a fire because the leak will pill up on the tank, at the top near the hose connections. This needs to be recalled and replaced. It cost us $1,700 to get this replaced and finally fixed.

On Jan 15th noticed strong smell of gasoline by fuel tank. Took vehicle to dealer where they found fuel seeping from fuel pump module at connector. They replaced fuel pump module with sensor. Total cost was $1700. Contacted GM customer assistance and after they researched the issue they refused to pay anything since it was out of warranty and there was no recall notice. The NHTSA needs to force GM to recall these vehicles before someone gets injured or killed!

My 07 Chevy Equinox is leaking from the gas tank on the rear passenger side of the car. A very strong odor is coming into the car I called the local Chevrolet dealer and they told me that this was a on going problem with this year Equinox but it hasn't been re called. My car is out of warranty so I have to pay out of pocket for this. My car has 83K miles on it. The tank to replace is $674 plus labor but I found the tank cheaper but still paying 600 to have it fixed. I looked up this problem and there's a ton of cars with the same problem this is so dangerous to have. I'm so glad that we noticed this problem today because we are going on vacation in two days and I don't know what would have happen driving this car 800 miles. There has to be something Chevy can do for everybody that owns this car. I'm going to contact the media of this problem if it's not recalled.

On Jan. 30th check engine light and smelled fuel when I parked the car. Next day my mechanic ran a pressure test on fuel system and we could see fuel running down the sides of the fuel tank. He dropped the tank and a pool of gasoline is sitting in a depressed area on top of the fuel tank where the top of the fuel pump is located. The gas is leaking where the fuel pressure line connects to the pipe on top of the fuel pump sending unit. This appears to be a heat shrinked wrapped connection ( no clamps ) which has cracked causing fuel to leak out and down the sides of the fuel tank in close vicinity of the exhaust system. My mechanic replaced the fuel pump/fuel module/fuel line assembly ( yes, its all one unit ). set me back $ 1,200 dollars and not covered by warranty and I hope this one's not defective. This is a major safety issue and manufacture's defect and I'm shocked there hasn't been a safety recall on this issue yet. Please order a mandatory recall, GM has got to fix this.

The fuel system some where on the right side of fuel tank close to exhaust pipe, can see where fuel is leaking down the right side (passenger side) of fuel tank. Strong smell of raw gas fumes in the vehicle when driving which is detrimental to the human respiratory track and the brain. It is a potential fire hazard also. I hope that GM will recall this problem. My vehicle is only five years old. I hope they are not playing the bean counter game with this complaint. My 1995 Chevy truck is sixteen years old and it has never had a fuel leak in the fuel system. My 50 Chevy never had a fuel leak it was over 20 years old when we bought it. This kind of problem is not suppose to happen and over 200 complaints speaks very loud. My wife and I were driving from Georgia to North Carolina when it started leaking and we both suffered headache and nausea before we finally got home. I hope GM will stand behind it's product.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong odor of fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that a fuel line coming from the fuel pump to the engine was cracked. As a result, fuel would leak and rest near the reservoir next to the tank. This failure created a fire hazard. The contact also stated that the dealer was unable to locate the leak in the same way the mechanic was able to. The failure and current mileages were 84,000. The consumer was informed there was a leak coming from the filler neck and the gas tank would need to be replaced. Updated 04/09/12
