Equinox LT 2.4L Ecotec Inline 4 cyli

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,100 miles

Driving along in my much loved 2015 Equinox. Heard terrible sound, thought I hit something in road, caused me to hit breaks and almost have a wreck. Swerved into middle turning lane. So close to having an accident. Timing chain broke and car went into limp mode. It was not due for oil change yet, had no warning!! I STILL HAVE A LOAN ON THIS CAR!! I am furious this happened. I need it fixed but I need a new engine and was quoted $7000!! I don't have $7000. What will GM do to help us out when they know it's due to a faulty oil consuming engine. Who can help me now!??? Should I file a law suit? Notify the media at how GM is aware of this but not helping????

Equinox LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

Car started running rough and jerking (doing most of the stuff people are complaining about). We took it in, and they replaced every sensor they could thing of. Cost Like $1100.00. Then the engine blew a few days after we had it in for service. We had no idea the 2.4L had all these burn oil issues. Dealer wants $12,000 for a new engine, says it is completely shot. The engine cost is about what we paid for the car used. Only had 75K miles on it.

Equinox LT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 141,000 miles

Car started to miss. I drove it home, parked it, and the next morning it would not start. Took it to a garage and they stated it had jumped timing. I had just had an oil change done 2 weeks prior and had no issues. I have had excessive oil use for a while now. After calling my insurance company, they stated this has become an ongoing issue.

Equinox LT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 141,000 miles

Noticed car had been consuming a lot of oil. I do my oil changes as recommended and sometimes sooner than needed. The car gave an engine warning sign. Took it home and the next morning it would not start. I thought it was the battery. Purchased a new battery and still nothing. Took it to a certified mechanic, and he stated the timing belt had loosened and this is common for this type of vehicle and engine. Another mechanic stated the water pump prob failed and loosened the chain. I had an extended warranty and they refused to cover it. They stated it was a pre-existing condition. Seriously I thought that was only used in medical terms, not for engines - that is normal wear I thought. Things do break. Correct?

But after talking to several mechanics they all say let me guess, you drive an equinox with a 4 cylinder. Why is this such an issue? And why will it not keep a charge with a new battery in it? For me to repair this car I either have to replace the engine with a used or new motor. What really stinks is I bought this used and for my mother so I can transport her and her wheelchair. I was told it gets wonderful fuel mileage and it has enough room for a wheelchair which it does. And she can get into it easier with assistance of course. Now I have to literally pick her up and try to get her into a large F350 truck when we go places. This really pisses me off because Chevy has an issue but they do not want to fix it and the extended warranty companies do not want to cover them anymore. I am paying for a vehicle that is just sitting in my driveway going to crap.
