While I was driving the rear main seal went out and I lost all my oil. Luckily I was close to home, could have blown my motor. This is a $1500 to a $2500 fix. This happened around feb.26 2024 and my car is still sitting I'm my drive until I can save up the money to fix it. Also the few places I have called around to fix it have had other equinoxes in for the same thind,22 that I know of.
My son was driving and all of a sudden the check engine light came on, it got really loud and stalled out while he was driving. Luckily he was on a road with a low speed limit. If this had happened on the highway it could have been extremely dangerous. He is a 16 year old new driver. We took it in and were told the rear main seal blew and we need a new engine. Apparently this is a know issue with this car. We are now in the process of installing a new engine on a car we have taken very good care of with less than 100,000 miles and still has a car payment. There were no prior warnings and the issue was confirmed by the dealer.
Car started to leak oil, took it for repair was told it has a pcv valve issue, that can lead to main seal failure. This is a 13 hour repair, at a cost of approximately $2500 This issue can happen again, and especially in cold weather. So even if you get it repaired this pcv/valve issue can cause main seal failure again. From Mechanic Report: -??Finding:.Other engine oil leak issue -??Recommendation: See technician notes below -??Technician's Notes: Rear main seal leaking. Lower oil pan very likely leaking as well. PCV system failing caused Excessive engine pressure which in turn caused rear main to fail. There is a GM TSB specifically for this issue. Without repairing PCV, seals will fail again. Repairing PCV system will require intake and valve cover removal. -??Full recommendation: -??-Remove valve cover and clean pcv passages -??-Remove intake, replace pcv valve, and clean pcv passages. -??-Replace rear main seal -??-Replace oil pan seal My vehicle mileage is Odometer 68,201mi so I am out of the warranty window.
When I was driving the vehicle, the dash said low pressure oil turn car off. Not even enough time to find a place to pull over. It just shuts off. Had been going 55 instead of 35. I could-??ve gotten rear-ended with it just shutting off talk to a Car repair shop and they said those are all starting to do that the rear main seal blowing out. They didn-??t have a big enough hole in the intake and it-??s plugging up and building pressure and blowing the rear main seal.
My infotainment system lost power.all ADAS systems stopped working All warning alarms stopped no blinker sound, no dome light or back up cameras. Im not even sure if my airbags are working. radio, gps climate control out. I was in nyc when this happened lost gps guidence was my first time there wound up lost in that traffic a lot of near misses. I took my vehicle to my dealer they confirmed my ifotainment center needs replaced at a cost of 2200 dollars. Im on ssi disability thats more than a months pay so i had no choice but drive it the way it is. I looked up issue on google there are hundreds of complaints on there. There should be recall on this issue as i see it started in 2012 to present. There was no warning just started the car and nothing was working. No ADAS warnings i see as a total safety issue

I own a 2017 Chevy Equinox. My husband and I are the only owners of it. It has just over 100,000 miles. Yesterday, February 1, 2023, I started my vehicle 15 minutes before I packed my 1 year old and 3 year old into the vehicle so I could take them to daycare and I could go to work. We drove down US HWY 8 (55 mph speed limit), onto County Road S to the kids' daycare. When I pulled into the parking stall, I smelled an oder of what I thought was gas. Looked at my gages and nothing was "wrong" - jumped out, & inspected around under the gas tank to see if it was leaking. It wasn't, so I thought maybe I drove over someone else's leak that I couldn't see. I took my kids out, brought them into daycare and left my vehicle running. When I came out, the smell was even stronger. I started to back up and noticed what looked like an oil pile. I then questioned if it was there prior and I didn't notice. I pulled over in the parking lot and saw it was leaking under the front end. I then parked it and shut the vehicle off. It was -15 out that morning. Not a single light came on my vehicle indicating that something was wrong. I checked my oil to see how much I had lost and it wasn't even registering on the dipstick. Empty. My husband towed it later that evening. Rear main seal blowout from frozen PVC. This is very concerning to me as it must have started to leak when I was driving and there was never a low oil indicator, overheating, engine light no oil was in my yard or driveway. And there wasn't enough oil in the daycare parking lot to have it be empty. This vehicle could has easily caused an accident to myself, my 1 year old and my 3 year old if it would have stalled going down the highway. It could have also caused an accident to another vehicle. I'm very lucky to have noticed where I did, but something should really be addressed with this. Not to mention we could have easily have been stranded out of town in extreme temperatures - especially for children.
The exhaust is coming into the cab. Was told that Chevy is allowed to kill people slowly with carbon dioxide poisoning. Also was told NHTSA is paid by Chevy to keep the information of the exhaust issue under wrapps. I understand killing babies is no crime in the liberal world but I am not an ugly liberal.
Main rear seal blew and upon towing to Dealer they said they had 3 other equinox vehicles there all done around 130000 miles and all the same year - low oil light never appeared - Car just stopped during winter season and I am 72 years and in the country, with no heat waiting for AAA - Problem of not getting oil light low was never explained but rear main seal was fixed - Upon completing repairs a check engine light remains -Car drove fine after the fix and continues to drive fine but check engine light remains
I was driving at 330am had cruise control to 70 the speed limit and when I hit my breaks the cruise control didn't disengage instead it speed faster making me lose control of me vehicle took out a sign and went over the hill. My vehicle was totaled.
Rear main seal blew out due to known (and recalled in previous years) fault with the PCV valve. The check engine light never came on and neither did the oil light when there was no oil left due to the seal blowing out. This incident caused damage to crucial engine parts including the transmission.
The engine/timing chain and heads for my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox failed. I only had this vehicle for 4 years 4 months with only 113,000 miles. I feel my safety was put at risk because out of nowhere my vehicle began jerking and bucking back in forth very badly. I had my vehicle totally diagnosed with Gateway Tire Center and Service, which cost me $283.17, just for a diagnosis. My vehicle has not been inspected due to this vehicle was brand new with zero miles when I purchased it on October 30, 2016. All maintenance has been kept up regularly on my vehicle. Before my vehicle all of sudden quit running there were no indications that there was a problem until the engine light popped on after it started the jerking and bucking back in forth. I am highly upset with the dealership who sold me this vehicle because I know they knew this vehicle would not operate any more after a certain amount of mileage. I should not have to be trying to car shop this early on for a new vehicle. I am only 13000 to 14000 miles outside of my warranty with this vehicle it is no way I should have to either purchase a new engine or buy a new vehicle. I need something done about this immediately.
On May 24, 2021, my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox was sitting in my driveway. While my son was vacuuming the car out he heard a boom and jumped out. The rear window had shattered. No one was around and nothing had hit it. The temperature outside was 78 degrees and there was a breeze blowing so it was not due to the heat. Called Chevrolet and they said they have never heard of this happening and it isn't a manufacturer defect but a quick search online and others have had this happen in their 2017 Chevrolet Equinox.
I was driving on the highway to an appointment and my engine light came on and the engine started to reduce speed I was able to get to a destination and pull off and then it stated low oil pressure turn off engine. I had it towed to a mechanic and they said all the oil drained out the intake manifold was plugged up and couldn't breathe and blew out the main seal and said I could have blew up my engine by continuing to drive it. This is a repair he said he sees often in these Equinox vehicles and he reached out to a fellow GM mechanic who is looking at it and says this is a common problem with these vehicles and should be a recall. This repair is very expensive and requires either the engine or transmission to be removed to fix the part and then put back in this is happening on vehicles fairly new mine is barely reaching 4years old this year with 27, 268 miles on
More than once my stereo has frozen, I cannot use bluetooth to answer calls, cannot switch from source, can hear anything; it's just frozen. Then when I park and turn the engine off and open the doors, the stereo remains on. I try turning on the car again drive it a bit turn it off again and open doors again and still it remains on. It stays on throughout the night until the batter gives out and in the morning I have to jump start it. And then it's as it nothing happened and it works perfectly again. The last time it happened I had just turned my vehicle on and I tried putting music and I realized what was happening again.
How can one find the safety of travel when considering the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the virus we are not comfortable traveling 1200 miles from Florida to New York. How can we tell that any motels will be open on each stop? we are in our 80S and have difficulty on long runs. Thank you.
Received a letter from Chevy stating my vehicle 'may' have issues where a link ball circuit in the wiper transmission will fail and the wipers may not work. The letter goes on to say that I should not take the vehicle in unless the wipers fail. Are you kidding me" this vehicle is my mom's. she's 86. So she, or anyone for that matter can be driving along a dark highway and the wipers fail, a known issue, and this is not a recall or a safety concern? how did this ever get past anyone" this should be an automatic recall. It is a serious safety issue
Purchased October 2019 one day I went to the store and on the return home it started to rattle like it was out of oil upon inspection oil was leaking profusly between the engine and transmission when I searched there is a problem with the rear main oil seal getting blown out when the pvc is plugged but when I looked for vehicle recall there was nothing I could find
While at stop light, vehicle began to jerk. Dealership couldn't repeat issue since it only occurred when engine was cold. Issue persisted and became worse. Vehicle stalled as if it was out of gas. Started again after a few minutes. Next day started without issue but began to jerk when applying breaks more than usual. Parked and turned off to run into store. Vehicle wouldn't start again. Towed to mechanic.
