After receiving the first recall notice, I couldn't get it fixed due to lack of replacements.

I removed every key and fob off the ring per GM's suggestion until replaced.

Recalled the ignition switch. Up to this point my HHR was running just fine. After fix, the electronics went "haywire" on my control panel. Never happened BEFORE replacing ignition. Then recently when it turned cold, I can put the car in park, turn the key to "off", remove the key AND THE CAR STILL KEEPS RUNNING. The first time it was at church and the attendant said it ran for 5 minutes and 40 seconds before quitting. Then on the 14th of November I went to the Vet, put it in park, turned the key to off, removed the key and it continued to run for over 7 minutes. I was in the vet's office over an hour and when I came out--the engine had stopped BUT THE RADIO DID NOT TURN OFF!!

I tried to start the car and it was unresponsive!!! I tried several times but it would not start. I manually turned the radio off (when I got in the car) and went into the vet's office to get the phone number of Southern Pines Chevrolet. It took about 5 minutes and when I got in my car (while on my cell phone waiting for Service to answer) it started up. Prior to this I had taken it to the Chevy dealership and they said they put it on diagnostics and that ALL MODULES WERE WORKING PROPERLY (the day was warm), but when it gets cold the control pane will not let me know how fast I am going and will go up and down and quit and other lights will come on. I reported to GM also and am still waiting for Dana to contact me about the 14th. Service said he has to assume the ignition switch they replaced was bad--so now, once again, I am waiting for a new ignition switch and driving a vehicle THAT IS UNRELIABLE and was not BEFORE THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH!!!!!

OOOOOkay, lets get started with the ignition recall. I never knew about this problem until this past February [Feb 2014]. I got my letter in the mail and said OK. I then found out that GM would provide me with a loaner at no charge while my car was being fixed. I thought cool, I can drive around in a 2014 Sonic for a week or 2. I took the HHR into the dealer on April 4,2014. I put 5000 miles on the 2014 Sonic. I took the Sonic back to the dealership for its first oil change and was then informed the Sonic was being pulled as my loaner because when they hit 5000 miles they have to be switched out for another car.

Let me say one thing about this Chevrolet dealership, the service department has treated me better than ANY Chevrolet Dealership I have dealt with since I started driving and that was in 1986. OK, back to the switch of loaner cars. The dealership arranged a rental at their cost at Enterprise Car Rental just down the road. I now have a 2013 Chevrolet Impala. I had to get some paperwork out of the HHR a couple of days later and saw something on the windshield that surprised me. Two Words....KEYS STUCK written on the upper driver's side windshield. I asked the service tech what was up with this and he said the new ignition was installed and this new problem arose after the new ignition was installed.

It is now June 8,2014 and still no HHR and so far I have made 2 calls to Detroit about what should be done with this situation. Again I cannot fault this Chevrolet dealership. They have helped in every way possible. I actually feel sorry for these dealerships with this recall because God only knows how many other HHR's and other vehicles involved could have this problem AFTER the "new" ignition is installed.

My main concern is that the car may never be right again after all this mainly because it has been sitting for over 2 months and in the last 2 months it hasn't been running at all. All I want out of all this is a replacement IF this car is gonna be in worse shape after I get it back....when I get it back. I'm not saying I don't like rental cars but I am saying I would like my own car back. If I do end up with a new vehicle I will gladly pay my monthly payments just as I am paying for the HHR just as long as it isn't much more than my existing payment.
